OGDENSBURG-Myrna O'Neil, 85, of Ogdensburg, NY, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Myrna was born in Saranac Lake, NY, on February 17, 1940, to John and Isabelle O'Neil. Upon graduating from Saranac Lake High School in 1957, she continued her education, graduating from St. Rose College with a BA in Mathematics. Myrna later received her Master's Degree in Counseling from St. Lawrence University. Myrna was both a high school math teacher and counselor at Ogdensburg Free Academy for 34 years until her retirement in 1995, aiding generations of students in knowing their chosen career paths.
Myrna was very active in her community. She was a member of the NY State Parks & Recreation, a member of the Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce, a 50-year member of the Ogdensburg Zonta Club, a former board of director member of the United Helpers, and a former board of director's member of St. Mary's Cathedral while serving as a Communion Minister, Choir Member, Radio Announcer, and Bereavement Committee Member.
Myrna frequented Oscar's and the Gran-View Restaurant over the years. Throughout Myrna's life, she enjoyed winters in Florida with her longtime partner, Sam Cavallario, outings with friends for food and drinks, cooking, summer trips to Saranac Lake with family, along with all of her cherished times with her Cavallario family.
Myrna was also preceded in death by her life partner, Sam Cavallario, her brother, the former area assemblyman, John G.A. O'Neil & his wife, Assemblywoman Chloe Ann O'Neil. Also, her sister, Sister Janice O'Neil. She is survived by her niece, Beth Ann O'Neil Rice (Stephen Lavigne) of Parishville, NY; A nephew, John A.S. O'Neil (Meg O'Neil) of Utah. She is also survived by many great friends, including Linda Smith & Craig Worden.
Calling Hours will be held at the Frary Funeral Home in Ogdensburg on Friday, January 2, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, followed by a 2:00 PM Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral. Following the Funeral Mass, a gathering will take place at the Frary House, in honor of Myrna. Burial will be on a later date in the Spring at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake, NY.
Memorial contributions can be made to either St. Mary's Cathedral or United Helpers.

Myrna is the oldest friend I have in the world. We were neighbors and playmates from age two, and thereafter close friends til high school graduation. My parents and brothers have always been close friends with her entire family. Rest in peace, sweet lady--you've done a marvelous job here.
