Myron Nix Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tate Mortuary on Dec. 9, 2025.
MYRON EDWARD NIX

Artisan, hunter, fisherman, husband, son, father, grandfather, and friend, Myron Edward Nix, age 87, of Tooele, Utah, passed away peacefully the morning of December 5, 2025, at St. Mark's Hospital.

Myron was born February 5, 1938, in Tooele, Utah, to Foster Lougy Nix and Thelda Elizabeth McBride. He spent much of his life in the surrounding mountains, hunting and fishing. The outdoors was his sanctuary, and he knew the hills and valleys of Tooele like an old friend.

A naturally gifted athlete, Myron excelled at every sport he played. Upon graduating from Tooele High School, he received a full-ride scholarship to play football at the University of Utah. He joined the Marines instead . . . they needed a good point guard!

Myron met the love of his life, Janet Pauline Maxfield, from Clover, in the 4th grade when they were paired up for a dance. Years later, they were crowned king and queen of the prom. On July 31, 1957, Myron married his childhood sweetheart, Janet, in the Logan Temple. They settled in his hometown where they raised their four sons, Steven, Gary, Kyle, and Roger. He cherished his family most of all and dedicated his life to building a heritage and legacy.

Myron came from an artistic family and found joy later in life in sharing his own creative talents. He became well-known as a skilled flintknapper and made many Native American replicas that are now treasured heirlooms. He taught and encouraged each person he met…whether it was rock-chipping, hunting, fishing, gardening, or just being a good dad.

Together, Myron and Janet traveled and had countless adventures–making new friends everywhere they went. They took in any stray, whether animal or human. They had a cozy kitchen but a big table where everyone gathered and everyone was always welcome.

Myron loved life and people. He made friends easily and genuinely. You always knew where you stood with Myron. His quick wit, skilled storytelling, twinkling eyes, and kind heart immediately put you at ease. Myron always had something to share–whether it was his wisdom or wit, fresh cantaloupe or kohlrabi, a pocket full of jelly bellies for the kiddos, or a cold can of Pepsi.

He will be greatly missed by many, especially his family and friends.

Myron is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; children Steven (Stacy) Nix of Bluffdale, Gary (Jaylene) Nix of Rigby, Idaho, and Roger (Julie) Nix of Wellsville; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; sisters Marlene and Karen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son Kyle, whose ashes will be buried alongside his dad.

He was also preceded in death by both parents, as well as siblings Dorothy, Gloria, William and Leoid.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 11th, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and again from 9:30 - 10:45 AM on Friday morning, December 12th, at Tate Mortuary, 110 South Main, Tooele, Utah. The funeral services begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Tooele City Cemetery.

A livestream of the funeral will be available on Myron's obituary page at Tatemortuary.com.
