Myrthie "Myrt" Provost passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, after a well-lived life of 90 years. Myrt grew up in
Port Allen, Louisiana as one of the eight children of Joseph "Butch" Alexander and Josephine "Mame" "Mrs. Jo" Carrier Alexander and spent a lot of time in her formative years working in the family grocery store – Alexander's Meat Market. When Myrt was 20 years old, she met a young man from Port Arthur, Texas, Emile "Sonny" Provost Jr., while attending a wedding reception. Myrt and Sonny held their own wedding reception a few years later in 1958. Both coming from large Catholic families, Myrt and Sonny then set about creating their own large Catholic family including Josephine (1959), Sharon (1960), Michelle (1962), Emile III (1962), Kelly (1964), Patricia (1970), and Laura Jean (1973). Myrt stayed home for years managing a full house of babies, children, and adolescents before venturing again into the world of paid work where she learned the art and the science of the floral business, and later, the daily routines of the Port Allen City Court. Myrt worked well into her eighties and regardless of the roles and positions she held during her career her real job was always to support and uplift others. She enjoyed the simple and familiar things in life: real conversation over a cup of coffee, serving her parish church, family celebrations, romance novels, supporting those in need, hand-in-foot card games with her friends, praying the rosary, T-bone steaks, spoiling the grandchildren, and well-made old fashioneds. Myrt was a person of deep faith and great capacity to love and be loved. She loved Sonny with all her heart. They were married 67 years and eight months. Myrt was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph "Butch" Alexander and Josephine "Mame" "Mrs. Jo" Carrier Alexander, her siblings, Joan Pinell Smith, Ida Lushute, Paul "Polly" Alexander, Peter "Pete" Alexander, and her granddaughter Caroline Walker. She is survived by her husband Emile "Sonny" Provost Jr., three siblings, her seven children, four sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, fourteen grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. Surviving siblings: Alfred "Al" Alexander, Charles Alexander, and John Rogge Alexander. Surviving sons-in-law: Rudy Gomez, Leslie Brown, Douglas Walker, and Christopher Alvarez. Surviving daughter-in-law: Jolice Provost. Surviving grandchildren: Jesse Downs (Patrick), Mark Gomez (Jennifer), Thomas Gomez (Jessica), Mary Schauster (Matthew), Giles Gomez, Katherine Rudolph (Kyle), Katie Buvens (Joseph), Matthew Hyde (Christen), Camille Provost, Luc Provost, Tori Erickson (Ronald), Hannah Brown, Brady Walker (Jordan), and Brandon Alvarez.
