Myrtle Kathleen Hess, age 86, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in Claypool Hill, Virginia.

She was born in Russell County and was the daughter of the late Charlie Stallard Bostic and Alafair Dye Bostic.

She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired nurse having worked both at the Mattie Williams Hopsial and the Washington Square Clinic. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Eugene Hess; son, Ronnie Eugene Hess; sisters, Zita Bea Jackson, Mabel Reedy, Thelma Vance, Betty Salyers, and Alma Gaye Byrd; and brothers, Thurman, Earl, Albert, Herman, and Hurld Bostic.

Survivors are:

Son: Gary Hess and wife, Stephanie of Richlands, Virginia

Daughter in Law: Jacqueline White of Cedar Bluff, Virginia

Brother: Arnold Bostic of Swords Creek, Virginia

Grandchildren: Ronnie Keith Hess, Gary Allen Hess, and Shannon Wayne Hess

Great Grandchildren: Hunter Wayne Jewell, Brennon Keith Hess, and Mali Aeris Hess

Special Nieces: Sherri Adkins, Brenda Raines, Sharon Hamric, Sharee Bowman

Special Nephews: William Byrd and Terry Byrd

Funeral services for Myrtle Kathleen Hess will be conducted Friday, January 9, 2026 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Jerry Welch officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Jason Byrd, Brandon Byrd, Matthew Adkins, Brennon Hess, Terry Byrd, and William Byrd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
