Myrtle Ruth "Adams" Parton

Rutherfordton, NC

Myrtle Adams Justice Parton, age 98 of the Gilkey Community, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 06, 2026 while being cared for at her daughter's home with her loving family by her side.

Myrtle was a native of Rutherford County and attended R.S. Central High School. She worked for a number of years in the local textile industry as a Quality Control Supervisor and retired from Tultex of Spindale. She was a devoted member of Gilkey United Methodist Church and dearly loved her church family.

The community will remember her as a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and neighbor who was loved by all that knew her. A hardworking, independent woman; Myrtle was always sharply dressed with her jewelry matching her outfit and sporting her sweet smile. Prior to her declining health one of her great pleasures was tending to her vegetable garden. She was a loyal friend and enjoyed joking with those dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Roy Adams and Eula Hill Adams; her husband of 48 years, Clarence Justice; her second husband James Parton; one brother, Ralph Adams; and one sister, Faye Hensley.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Alice Justice Lail and husband, Bobby who were her caregivers for a number of years. She is also survived by her brother, Boyd Adams and his wife Shirley; and a sister Ruby Justice, and also a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.

A heartfelt "Thank You" is extended to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, The Gilkey United Methodist Church Family, The Friends and Neighbors of the Gilkey Community, Susie and Gilford Harris, and Christine Walsh and Paul Smith. Over the years these caregivers showed unending kindness and love in the care of Myrtle.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3 P.M., Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Gilkey United Methodist Church, 108 Aydlotte Road, Rutherfordton NC 28139, with Rev. MacKenzie Gary and Rev. Colby Fagan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held by the family at in the Round Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
