Myrtle Ann "Pohkie" Watson was born on April 12, 1961, in Rochester, NY, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Orange & Catherine Watson. On September 14, 2024, she earned her heavenly wings, surrounded by the love of those who cherished her. Pohkie was preceded in death by her beloved twin sister, Mildred Ann "Peanut" Watson; her sister, Linda Faye Watson; two brothers, Orange Watson Jr. and Ivory Lee "Butch" Watson; and her niece, Alannah Burke.
From an early age, Pohkie's faith was an anchor in her life. She, along with her family, joined St. Paul Holiness Church, where she accepted Christ and built a lifelong foundation in faith.
Pohkie was a proud graduate of Monroe High School. She furthered her education at SUNY Geneseo, where she earned a degree in Liberal Arts, demonstrating her passion for knowledge and personal growth.
In 1983, Pohkie answered the call to serve her country by enlisting in the Army Reserves. She served with distinction and honor, spending time on active duty and later receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Pohkie had a deep love for music, which brought joy and peace to her soul. She often immersed herself in different cultures, particularly those of Japan, China, and Indonesia, developing a deep admiration for their traditions, art, and history. This curiosity and appreciation for the world's rich diversity became an integral part of who she was.
Known for her warm and loving nature, Pohkie was a bright light to everyone around her. She was a devoted family member, a true friend, and a woman of unwavering faith. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Pohkie is survived by her four loving sisters: Brenda Watson Rawls (Vincent), Cathy Watson (Keith), Sharon Watson, and Priscilla Watson (James), all of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by her nephews: Rodney (Roshae), Rondell, Willis, Daniel, Anthony, and Amar; nieces: Takeisha, Shauntrece (Brandon), Felicia, Erica (Alfred), and Ariel; her godson Jermaine and goddaughter Brittney; her special great-nephew Rodney Knight Jr.; her special great-nieces Rhakaylah Knight and Rhakiyah Knight; and many more great-nieces and great-nephews. Additionally, she is survived by special cousin Shawn Watson, who always makes sure our family is safe and well taken care of during our times of bereavement, special friends Larry Mallory, Charles Lovett, and David Green. A host of extended family and dear friends will forever cherish her memory. Though Pohkie is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and resilience that will never be forgotten.
