Nada Spencer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sims Funeral Home - Soda Springs on Dec. 7, 2025.
Oh what a life! The lady just never stopped moving. We don't think she knew how!

Her parents, Kenneth William and Wanda Earlene Hill Hamp were blessed with Diann's presence on July 7th, 1943, in Lava Hot Springs Idaho. We're sure she came out smiling and wiggling her feet! Diann joked that sevens were lucky and her birthday was triple sevens. "Four and three is seven also you know!" She was the second of four children, Earl, Diann, Dale and Colleen. Ken or "daddy" as she still called him, moved the family to Conda for several years but eventually settled down for good in Grace, Idaho.

It was here that Diann met and easily twitterpated the love of her life, Jim Spencer. On September 9th, 1960, they were married, and in September of the following year they had their first of five children.

Many of her favorite pastimes included time in the great outdoors with her family. Anything that got them out of the house and into the fresh air tickled her pink (her favorite color by the way). Things like mountain rides, picnics, four wheeling, snow machining, berry picking and camping. The list goes on and on because she was always willing to try anything new. Just sharing the experience with family and friends is what was important to her.

All types of music and especially dancing always made her happy. Any dancing, from square dancing with Jim, swing dancing with Darin to just being silly with the grand kids. Her three-mile morning walks and talks with a longtime friend helped keep her active and in dancing shape. Thanks ILa Rae! She just needed to move those feet, which is why she enjoyed clogging so much. As a member of the Black Canyon Cloggers, she performed for people not only in Grace but in Disneyland and Disneyworld as well. She had fond memories of those times.

Diann enjoyed old fashioned things like sewing, canning, making cards-birthday, Christmas etc.. and an in-person conversation instead of a text. Dad said she was always boiling the p*** out of something. She definitely passed that trait on to her three daughters. Diann often commented that her and pa were so blessed because we let them hang out with us young people. We smile about that because we all know it was us who were blessed with their presence! We cherish every moment and experience we've shared with them.

After Jim's passing in 2015, Diann or "Grama D" as most people knew her by, didn't give up on life. She embraced it, even taking a cruise to Cuba with her sister in-law Shirley and family. She stayed busy continuing her temple work and staying caught up with her house and yard work. She even took on a part time job cleaning at the mine with her daughter twice a week in her late 70's! She enjoyed and excelled at all of her earlier endeavors. These Included working at the sheriff's office as a dispatcher, Anderson Lumber, work in potatoes, and at Caribou Motel as a house maid and eventually the motel manager. She had an eagerness to learn and would try almost anything that Pa or anyone else would teach her. A real Jill of all trades.

She had a soft heart and was happy to help anyone who needed a hand, and she always did it with a smile. If you had the pleasure of knowing Diann, you knew the smile. While in assisted living and Elegant Living memory care in Pocatello, the wonderful staff and even the tenants all loved and talked about her beautiful smile. She shared it with everyone, right up until the end. It was addictive. A heart felt 'Thank You' to Jerry for his friendship and weekly dinner outings with mom, and everyone else who helped her with her late life struggles! WE LOVE YOU MOM! We will miss you until we meet again!

Diann is survived by her children, Jenny (Clay) Hall of Soda Springs, Jeanie Sorensen of Soda Springs, Doug (Michelle) Spencer of Brigham City Utah, Darin Spencer of Soda Springs and Jody (Tim) Gaines of Soda Springs, her sister Colleen (Doyle) King of Chubbuck, sister-in-law Mary Lee Hamp of Soda Springs, 24 grandchildren 37 great grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren and everyone else who called her Grama D.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 12 noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center. Viewings will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:30 P.M. at the funeral home and again prior to the service from 10:30-11:30 A.M. at the Grace Chruch.
