Dr. Nai Tse Tsai went to be with his Lord on November 21, 2024, at his home in North Augusta, South Carolina. He was 87 years old, surrounded by his children and friends.
Nai Tse Tsai was born to the late Dr. Chih Wen and Yin Chu Chen Tsai on January 27, 1937, in Jinan, China. He grew up with his younger brother Enoch on the picturesque coastal island of Gulangyu, where the closely knit Christian family worshipped together. At the same time, his father served the community as a family medicine physician. In 1962, he followed in his father's footsteps and graduated from Shandong Medical School, where he later specialized in Family Medicine Physicians. He married his schoolmate, Dr. Jun Fang Liu, in 1966, and they had a girl, Chi Hui, and a boy, Chi Tai. He served the Gulangyu community until 1979, when the family moved to Hong Kong. The family came to North Augusta, South Carolina, in 1983, and he worked as a researcher until retirement. He remained active after retirement by studying music and painting at USC Aiken.
As a faithful and engaging Christian, he attended the Dayspring Baptist Church and, later, in 2004, helped found the Augusta Chinese Christian Fellowship. He facilitated the growth and development of the CSRA Chinese Chorus and contributed to the local Chinese Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother. He is survived by his daughter Susannah Tsai Young (George), son Joseph Tsai (Lisa), and grandchildren Christina Young, Catherine Tsai, and Cynthia Tsai.
His funeral service is scheduled at the Rowland-Ford Funeral Home on December 7, 2024. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m., the memorial service at 2 p.m., and Interment in Pineview Memorial Gardens at 3:30 pm. A reception will follow immediately at the Augusta Chinese Christian Fellowship (1405 Marks Church Road. Augusta. GA 30909). My condolences to the family of Nai-tse. I was honored to be his music teacher and friend for many years. Nai-tse was warm, hard-working, eager to learn, and a valuable contributor to his fellow composers. I will always think of him fondly.
