Nancy Akin, 100, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Nancy was born October 11, 1925, on Long Island, NY, the second child of Wheelock and Arline Curtis Bigelow. Nancy graduated high school from Rosemary Hall, a good student and captain of the field hockey team. She attended one semester at Barnard College (now Columbia) before marrying her husband, Paul Akin in 1944.
Three weeks later, Paul shipped off to WWII on the European front, and Nancy supported the war efforts by candy striping at a local hospital. He returned after the war. Paul and Nancy had 4 boys, and were married for 76 years. Nancy spent her life taking care of her family – children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, conservative politics, tennis, summering in Cape Cod, dogs, horses, birds, and music. Nancy also loved her Lord and her church, always gracious and frequently hosting bible studies and events.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband Paul, and two sons, Todd (Lulli) and Sam (Laurie). She is survived by two sons, eleven grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held, Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 3:30 pm at Holiday Inn Express, 2502 SE Hulsizer Drive, Ankeny, Iowa. A private family burial service will occur in Cape Cod.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wallbuilders, Alpha Women’s Center or Grace Life Church.
