Nancy Altemus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Doherty Funeral Homes, Inc. - Pike Creek on May 23, 2024.
Nancy Wain Altemus, age 94, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024 with family members by her side. Born in Midland, PA, to the late Nile H and Dorothy Wain, she lived in Midland until 1963, when she moved to Wilmington, DE.
Nancy was employed by the Curtis Paper Co. in Newark, and then by the Delaware Automobile Dealers Association until retirement.
Bob was the love of her life and together they traveled through Europe, Australia and Fiji Islands. For years they had season tickets to UD football games, preceded by coordinated tailgates with friends. After retirement Nancy and Bob spent winters in Key Largo, Florida.
Nancy loved hosting dinner parties for family and friends and weekly dinners for her grandchildren. Always trying new recipes, her "Swedish Rolls" were a Christmas tradition. Nancy also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Nancy was known for knitting beautiful Christmas stockings for everyone in the family and making hand sewn Christmas ornaments to adorn family Christmas packages. Her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved Bob and all of her grandchildren.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Nile and Dorothy Wain; her brother, Nile F. Wain; son, Robert Michael Brewer; her first husband, Robert Brewer; her husband of 45 years, Robert U. Altemus Jr.; and her daughters, Deborah Altemus Medkeff and Patricia Jo Coates. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Casteel of Bradenton, Florida; her daughters, Robin Brennan (Cory) and Rebecca Altemus Yearsley; her 10 grandchildren: Jeremy Woznicki (Danielle), Jamie Krikelis (Basil), Mark Guyer (Emily), Claire Myers, Matthew Coates (Nicole), Ashley Graham (Nathan), Jenny Coates (Joe), Jessie Noonan (Josh), Jake Yearsley (Emily), Holly Brennan; and her 20 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank her healthcare aids, Sophia and Megan, and the members of Delaware Hospice for providing loving care for Nancy this past year.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 2106 St. James Church Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Delaware, 1300 N Grant Ave #100, Wilmington, DE 19806 or Delaware Hospice, 630 Churchmans Road, Suite 200, Newark, DE 19702.
