WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Nancy (Almeter) Baker, 96, passed away Jan. 28, 2026 peacefully at home.
The oldest of seven, she was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Freedom, N.Y., to John J. and Anna C. Almeter. She was a 1947 graduate of Arcade Central School. At age 86, she received her Associate of Science in Liberal Arts in 2016 from Corning Community College. Her career as a secretary included working at the Pentagon during the Eisenhower administration.
On April 24, 1954, in Arcade, NY, she married Donald R. Baker of East Aurora.
She is survived by a sister, Joan Warner of San Mateo, CA.; six children, Margaret Baker of Hornell NY, Michael (Barbara) Baker of Rutherfordton NC, Patrick Baker of Grand Junction CO, Mary (Lambert) Pengelley of West Palm Beach FL, Kathleen (Richard) Starkey of Manitou Springs CO, and Dennis (Gail) Baker of Ehrenberg AZ; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 2014; a son, Timothy Baker, in 1988; and five siblings.
A private ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date
Arrangements are under the direction of Fagan's Funeral Home, Bath, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
