Nancy Barnes Obituary
Nancy's love for the natural world was evident in her passion for gardening; her vibrant flowerbeds were a testament to her nurturing spirit and the joy she found in cultivating life. She cherished the simple pleasures- long walks in nature, the warmth of the sun on her face, the peace she found outdoors. These moments, and her deep commitment to Fremont Holiness Church where she attended, were central to her life. Above all, however, Nancy treasured her family. Family time wasn't just something she enjoyed; it was the very core of her being.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Mary Smith (Benjamin) of Goldsboro; siblings, Mary Ann "Mousie" Howell (Donald) of Pikeville, Linda Parks (Morris Parks Jr.) of Mt. Olive, Gary Barnes (Becky) of Fremont, and Bobbie Barnes of Pikeville; a host of nieces, nephews and best friend, Audrey Lee.
Nancy is preceded is death by her husband, Richard B. Morton Jr.; parents, William Bernice Barnes and Mary Beatrice Walls Barnes; brother, Bernice Barnes; brother-in-law, Danny Barnes and sister, Alice Faye Mooring.
The family would like to acknowledge the following individuals for the love and care shown to Nancy: Southeastern Medical Oncology, Gentiva Hospice along with special Hospice nurse, Chassidy.
Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday August 21, 2025, at Fremont Holiness Church, 726 Norwayne School Road, Fremont, NC. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm with Pastor Ricky Sullivan.
Graveside Committal will be held on Friday August 22, 2025, at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont, 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Kahlert Funerals to assist with final expenses.
