Oscar Toler Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kahlert Funeral & Cremations - Maysville on Feb. 1, 2026.
Oscar Joseph Toler, a cherished husband, loving father, and doting grandfather, was called home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on February 4, 1958, he lived a life full of laughter, love, and deep faith. Oscar's journey on earth may have concluded, but the echoes of his joyous spirit and the lessons he imparted will resonate for generations to come.
He navigated life's waters with the same ease and enthusiasm he showed when freshwater fishing, one of his favorite pastimes. Oscar's love for nature was only surpassed by his love for his family and his Savior, Jesus Christ. His backyard became a sanctuary where he would often be found in profound conversation, contemplating the divine artistry of the sunset or the intricacies of an angel's role in our daily lives.
Oscar's sense of humor was a beacon of light, reflecting his faith-filled wisdom. He could draw a chuckle from the sternest of faces, often quoting Si from Duck Dynasty or expressing his admiration for the 'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin. His comedic timing was as natural as the serene landscapes he adored, and his laughter was a melody that harmonized with the songs of creation he so loved.
Preceded in passing by his beloved parents, Oscar Elliot Toler and Lovie Edna Toler, his son Joseph "Todd" Toler, and his brother Luckie Dennis Toler, Oscar's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife of 48 years, Judy Toler. Together, they shared a love that was as deep as the rivers he fished in and as enduring as the faith they nurtured.
His sons, Christopher Gilbert Toler and Maddison (of Oklahoma) and Luckie Paul Toler and Victoria (of New Bern), his daughter, Jodie Toler (of New Bern), and a host of grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, will continue to walk in the wisdom and love that Oscar embodied. Zachary Todd Toler, Claudia Alexis Toler, Kayla Autumn Lee, Hannah Elizabeth Lee, Arianna Michele Lee, Gracie Jo Rhodes, Mariah Desiree-Lynn Rhodes, Dusten "Jeremiah" Rhodes, Luckie Ezra Toler, Genevieve Toler, and Chloe Toler will miss their grandfather's stories and the gentle guidance he always provided.
Oscar's influence extended beyond his immediate family to his nephews and their families, Luckie Joe Toler and Jessica of Farmville along with their family Luckie Dennis Toler and Lana Toler Shook, Dennis Wayne Toler and his son, Thomas Toler, and Daniel Elliot Toler and Michelle along with their daughter, Kaley Toler. His dear friend Casey Potter Kite of New Bern will also hold dear the memory of a man who was as genuine in friendship as he was in faith.
Oscar was a man of God, a family man, and a man who reveled in the beauty of the world around him. His dog Susie, who shared 13 years of life's journey with him, has now joyously reunited with her master. The family takes comfort in knowing that Oscar is now among the angels he so often pondered, likely swapping stories and sharing a divine chuckle with the saints.
While we mourn the loss of Oscar Joseph Toler, we also celebrate a life that was a testament to the power of laughter, the strength of faith, and the enduring bond of family. His was a life well-lived, and the wisdom he shared, wrapped often in humor, will remain a treasured inheritance for all who knew and loved him.
