Marie Strobel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kahlert Funeral & Cremations - Maysville on Jan. 27, 2026.
Marie Koonce Strobel passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on November 19, 1932, to the late William Henry Koonce and Eula Davis Koonce, Marie's life was a testament to hard work, family values, and unyielding faith.

Raised by tenant farmers, she learned the virtue of hard work early on, toiling in the fields with a determination that would define her life. Despite the challenges of her youth, Marie's spirit never dampened. She carried this work ethic throughout her life, embodying the resilience and tenacity of her generation.

Marie was a beloved figure in her community, known as a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church in Maysville. At the tender age of 17, she received her first Bible-a cherished possession that she held dear until her last days.

Her home was a welcoming space, filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals. Marie was an excellent cook, famed for her delectable country ham biscuits and the three hearty meals she lovingly prepared each day. Her kitchen was not just a place for cooking but also a sanctuary for all creatures great and small, including her pet squirrel that would keep her company as she went about her tasks.

An avid reader, Marie's thirst for knowledge and stories was insatiable. She was a regular with the "Reader's Digest" and eagerly anticipated the arrival of the library on wheels. Her love for Avon products was equally well-known, and she never missed an opportunity to greet the Avon Lady anytime she was around.

Marie's legacy is carried on by her sons, Louis Strobel III and Timmy Strobel of Maysville; her daughters, Teeny Strobel Tait of New Bern and Becky Strobel Hansley of Maysville; her nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Her memory will be a guiding light for them as they remember the life lessons she poured into their lives. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her son William "Billy" Strobel, her daughter Ann Strobel Daech, and her nine siblings.

May we honor her memory by living with the same unwavering strength, work ethic, and endurance that she demonstrated in her life.

A service honoring her memory will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Kahlert Funeral Chapel in Maysville. The family will be receiving friends for a time fellowship immediately following the service.
