William Mobley Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 23, 2026.
William Henry "Henry" Mobley, born on October 5, 1943, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in the same beloved city on February 20, 2026, at the age of 82.

For over three decades, Henry dedicated his life to serving families as a Funeral Assistant with the Professional Mortuary out of Durham. His career also included time spent working at Billups Service Station in Jacksonville and Midgett Grocery in Maysville. Known fondly by his family as "Mr. Henry," he carried himself with a warmth and kindness that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Henry's heart resonated with music, and he was most at peace singing alongside his late wife, Retha Peele. Their harmonies were cherished by those who heard them. A devout member of the Christian Tabernacle Church of Jacksonville, Henry found solace and community within its walls.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 15 years, Retha Peele; his parents, Dorsey and Frances Mobley; and his sisters, Sarah Mobley, Shirley Raynor, and Erma Sams.

Henry leaves behind his brother, Willie Mobley, Sr., as well as his stepchildren, Wanda Humphrey, Donna Banks, and Charles Peele. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Evan, Bryan (Alysa), Denise, Charles, Mattie, Ruby, and Kayla, and he was adored by many great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

A funeral service in remembrance of Henry will be held at the Christian Tabernacle of Jacksonville on Tuesday, February 24th at 6 PM, with Pastors Murray O'Donnell and Randall Pearce officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service, from 5 to 6 PM, to offer their condolences and share in celebrating Henry's life.

Burial will follow on Wednesday morning, February 25th, at 11 AM at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hubert.

In this time of loss, we remember a man whose life was marked by devotion to his family and community. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
