Nancy Bates

Nancy G. Bates passed away peacefully on March 31, 2022. Born on May 31, 1929 in Blanchester, Ohio, Nancy was the daughter of Harold and Dorothy Garrison. She was the beloved wife of 55 years to Herb Bates, who passed away in 2008; mother to Gary Bates, Jennifer Bates Gerst (Tony), and Steve Bates.
Nancy graduated from Vanderbilt University and taught school in Lorain, Ohio, where she met Herb. The family moved from Ohio to California in 1969. Nancy was active in many organizations: Burlingame United Methodist Church, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, PARCA, PEO, bridge clubs, and book clubs. She was an advocate for the developmentally disabled community. Nancy worked alongside Herb when he started his business, Bates Pest Control. She and Herb loved traveling, entertaining, and attending SF Giants games. For the past 5 years Nancy enjoyed living at the Peninsula Regent, where she expanded her wide circle of friends. Family was Nancy's greatest joy throughout her life, first as the mother of three and later as "Grammy" to her three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Burlingame United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 30 at 2 pm.
