Nancy Joanne Bowers, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Fieldstone Place.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Ottis and Norene Wall Smith.  She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert L Bowers (Bobby), children, Kim Britton (Max), Ocoee, Florida, Brad Bowers, Clarksville, TN, one grandson, Cameron Hendrixson (Rachael) Okahumpka, FL. Three sisters, Barbara Sledd (Seldon) Nolensville, TN, Mardee Powers, (Mark) McKinney, TX and Viva Wallace (Bruce) Franklin, TN. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and great-great nephews and nieces.
Joanne was born in Stewart Co, TN, attended Stewart County High School through her junior year and her senior year at Clarksville High School. She attended Austin Peay State University.
She was the attendance secretary at New Providence Middle School with the Montgomery County School System for many years.  Joanne loved her family and extended family, always assisting with family reunions and staying in touch with cousins.
She loved the Lord and served Him in His church. As a member of First Baptist Church, she and her husband taught two-year-old Sunday School class for thirty- two years.  It was one of her greatest joys.
She was also passionate about gardening, growing vegetables plus many wonderful and beautiful flowers, and always sharing cuttings and flowers with friends and family. She loved working in the yard, sometimes spending the whole day outside; even enjoyed pulling weeds.
Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Freeman,  Dr. Ronny Raines, and Rev. Pat VanDyke officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, and again on Monday from 12 p.m. until the hour of service at First Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Blooming Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Scott Sledd, Chad Sledd, Madison Wallace, Marty Smith, Gary Smith, and Wayne Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to First Baptist Church Clarksville Children’s Department.
