OBITUARY
Nancy Treadwell Casper passed away on December 5, 2024 at
Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Georgia after suffering the effects of
dementia. Nancy was born December 11, 1938 to Annie Lou and Burton Treadwell in
Campton, Georgia at the old Doster homeplace on Emmett Doster Road. Nancy was
the 6th child born in a family with 9 children.
Nancy attended Walker Park Elementary School and graduated
from Monroe High School in 1958. Nancy married the love of her life, Ottis R.
Casper in 1961 and welcomed a baby girl, Karen, in 1962. In 1969, Nancy and
Ottis welcomed a son, Richard Dexter. They buried that son in 1974.
Nancy would go on to
live in Campton Georgia in the house she and her husband had built on Shoal
Creek Road until the effects of dementia caused her to move to Great Oaks
Memory Care in Monroe.
During her working years, Nancy worked at Allen's Five and
Dime on Broad Street in Monroe and later she would go on to work in the
lunchroom at Walker Park Elementary School. She also worked for many years as a
cashier at General Telephone Company and Monroe Water, Light and Gas. Her
favorite job of all was of stay-at-home mother to Karen and Dexter.
Nancy was an active member of Campton United Methodist
Church. She taught children's Sunday School classes, and she was a long-time
adult Sunday School Class teacher. She sang in the church choir and served as
the church historian along with being a member of various committees.
Nancy loved music.
Her favorite music was Southern Gospel. Through the years she attended numerous
concerts by Bill Gaither and other concerts by the Inspirations in Bryson City,
North Carolina.
Nancy enjoyed travel
and had the opportunity to travel to Switzerland and Italy; Alaska; Hawaii; New
England; the desert southwest; Niagara Falls and Canada; and throughout the
southeast.
Nancy is survived by daughter, Karen Casper of Campton,
Georgia; sisters: Rosie Seabolt and Barbara Cooper of Campton, Georgia; Becky
Baker (Jerry) of Blairsville, Georgia; brother Charlie Treadwell (Jocelyne) of
Stone Mountain; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Richard Dexter Casper; her
husband, Ottis R. Casper; parents, Annie Lou Doster and William Burton
Treadwell; brothers: Billy, Harper, Jack and Frank Treadwell.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the
staff members of Abbey Hospice. These individuals are truly angels here on
earth. Their compassion and love made a difficult experience much more bearable
to the patient and the family.
Another Thank You is extended to those hands-on care givers
at Great Oaks Memory Care in Monroe. Their patience and understanding are so
very much appreciated.
There will be a visitation on Sunday December 8th
at Meadows Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, and her funeral service
will follow at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim
Draper officiating. Interment will
follow at Campton Methodist Church Cemetery.
