Nancy Lee Cobb, 89, was born in Haskell, Texas, on June 25, 1936, to Lee and Josephine Brown. She was the oldest of four daughters-Gail, Debbie, and Darlene-and the last of her family to go home to be with Jesus.
At the age of eight, Nancy lost her mother in a tragic fire at her grandparents' home. Although she had been at school that day, the event deeply affected her, shaping her strong faith and compassionate spirit. Just a year later, at nine years old, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Nancy grew up on a cotton farm in Texas and graduated from high school in 1955. Soon after, she began working as a telephone operator before marrying the love of her life, Toxie Cobb, on December 4, 1955. Together, they began their life on a ranch in Cisco, Texas, before moving to Bloomfield, New Mexico, in 1958.
After several years of raising four beautiful daughters; Kathy, Kim, Lindy and Melody, Nancy pursued her dream of becoming a teacher. She earned her bachelor's degree with honors in education from Fort Lewis College, followed by a master's degree in reading from Northern Arizona University. Nancy went on to teach in the Bloomfield Schools for 25 years, where students and colleagues alike remember her as an inspiring and dedicated educator.
In retirement, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling to all 50 states, taking cruises with Toxie, camping, and reading. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Bloomfield since 1959 and served many years in the church nursery. When health challenges arose, she and Toxie continued to worship faithfully by watching services online.
Nancy will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, friends, and students. Her husband, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends were blessed to share countless cherished memories with her. She had an infectious smile and a warm, loving spirit-truly, to know Nancy was to know love and kindness.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Alana and staff at Saint Michael's Namaste House for their compassionate care and support of Nancy and her loved ones during this time.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, grandson Brandon Hurst, son-in-law Scott Hurst, and great-grandson Levi Heintz.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Toxie Cobb, and daughters Kathy Williams (Bob), Kimberly Duncan (George), Lindy Carter (Roy), and Melody Hurst (Reggie). Her grandchildren include Megan Heintz, Nicholas Duncan, Travis Williams (Bridget), Andi Freeman (Cody), Sharla Valdez (Aaron), Mandy Rich (Branden), and Bryan Carter (Carley).
Nancy also leaves behind 21 great-grandchildren: Isaac, Ayden, Gavin, and Hadassah Heintz; Myles, Bryce, Nash, and Briggs Freeman; Kai, Maili, Sailor, and Beckham Duncan; Emersyn and Barrett Williams; Carsen and Abbaley Rich; Brooklyn, Lucas, and Adelyn Valdez; and Summit and Juniper Carter.
Her presence will forever be treasured and deeply missed.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute, Farmington, New Mexico. Funeral services will follow on Friday, October 24, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bloomfield, 200 W. Sycamore St., Bloomfield, New Mexico.
