Nancy Ditzhazy, of Brownstown, Michigan (formerly of Trenton Michigan of 42 years), died peacefully following a short struggle with cancer at the age of 85. She was surrounded by her loving family as she passed. Nancy was greatly beloved as a mom, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend – and will be long remembered fondly for her firm yet loving ways, kind heart and incredible dedication to her family. She never hesitated to come to the need of those she loved and strangers alike. Nancy will long be remembered for her giving spirit.
Nancy graduated from Visitation Catholic High School in Detroit, Michigan, where she proudly attended even prior to converting to Catholicism. She continued her education as a young mom. By the age of 30, Nancy found herself raising, loving and nurturing 11 children. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and School, and she was St. Joseph's school bus driver for 25 years, keeping score at basketball games and planning/coordinating weddings for couples preparing for the Sacrament of Matrimony. No matter what Nancy was involved in, her caring, disciplined passion always shined through.
In the past several years, Nancy became committed to giving back to the community through Christnet Services. There, she assisted in planning and preparing meals for the less fortunate and homeless. She continually looked for ways to improve efficiencies in the operation, in the quest to serve more people as resources grew tight – advocating for improved facilities so that the less fortunate in our community could continue to enjoy the simple things in life; a warm meal, a warm shower, a place to rest and a friend to connect with. In her work in her own church and through this ministry, Nancy modeled her faith by serving others, showing grace, and being a loving and supportive friend.
Nancy will be missed greatly by a family who cherished her dearly. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Clifford Ditzhazy. She was also a cherished mom of Judy Sanborn, Mark Ditzhazy, Barb (Joe) DeGregorio, Michael Greene, Denise (John) Rieckhoff, John Ditzhazy, Donn (Sue) Ditzhazy, Rob (Barb) Ditzhazy, and Jill (Dave) Balazsi. She was a friend and a dear grandma to 30 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, with one on-the-way. She was preceded in death by her children Margie (Tom) Cybulla and Tony Ditzhazy, her grandchildren Catherine Sanborn and Scott Sanborn and son-in-law Mickey Warner, her parents Ivan and Lena Blackman and her siblings Mary (Vic) Jennings and Richard Blackman. Nancy was also a loving, lifelong friend of Margaret Ruschman, Gerri Shewbridge, and others too numerous to mention.
The family has arranged for visitation on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Trenton Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, located at 3200 West Road, 48183.
