Nancy Giordano Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy E. Giordano, a remarkable woman whose vibrant spirit touched many lives. Born in Indianapolis, on August 31, 1943, to her parents Virgil N. and Lois Marie (Miles) Purdue. Nancy departed from this world on February 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness.

Nancy was a proud graduate of Decatur Central High School, where she brightened the halls as the Head Majorette in the high school band and earned a certificate of merit for her cherished baton twirling. She furthered her education at Indiana Business College and dedicated herself to a successful career as a jeweler with Herff Jones, where she worked until her retirement in 2004.

A devoted member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Nancy embraced her faith with the same passion she had for life. She actively participated in the Young at Heart group, the Red Hat Society, and a vibrant book club. Her love for music shone through in her singing and songwriting, and she brought joy to gatherings with her Elvis Presley impersonations. She had an insatiable love for reading, enjoying card games, and an affinity for watching game shows. Above all, Nancy treasured the moments spent with her family-her beloved grandchildren who were the light of her life.

Nancy is remembered as a spunky, feisty, and compassionate soul-a generous spirit with a kind heart and a wonderful sense of humor. Her honesty and straightforwardness were qualities that endeared her to many. She was a true battle axe, navigating life with bravery and resilience, and she inspired those around her to embrace their own strengths.

She is survived by two daughters, Dawn Avery (Howard) and Shamra Spray (Larry Jr.); eleven grandchildren, Thomas III, Ezrarae, Samuel, Elijah, Noah, Matthew, Ariana, Grace, Brittany, Joni, and Taylor; six great-grandchildren, Shealee, Tristain, Trinity, Skylar, Ayden, and Jonathan; and her sisters, Joann Pearson and Janice Hembree; as well as her brothers, Arthur Purdue (Connie) and Curtis Purdue (Tricia).

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Virgil N. Purdue Jr.; her first husband, Dominic A. Giordano; and her second husband, Daniel J. Shine.

In honor of Nancy's beautiful life, a Mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 6350 S Mooresville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46221, on February 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM. A public visitation will begin at 9:30 AM at the church. The cryptside service will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis, at 12:45 PM, where she will be laid to rest.

As we gather to celebrate the life of Nancy E. Giordano, let us remember her warmth, her laughter, and the love she shared so generously with all. She will forever remain in our hearts.
