Nancy Leigh Gummelt, 73, of Lubbock, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. She was born on December 7, 1951, in Lubbock, to the late Doryal Young and Vernell (Eubank) Young.
Nancy graduated from Lubbock High in 1969 and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Texas Tech in 1973. She taught elementary school in Slaton for many years before retiring.
Nancy loved to play tennis and golf. She was an excellent cook, loved her home and was a most gracious hostess. She was very supportive of her niece and nephew and loved going to their events. She was appreciative of her neighbors and treasured their friendship. Nancy was always smiling and had a warm, welcoming spirit about her.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her sister, Sharon Prather and husband Laurin of Lubbock; her niece, Elise White and husband Dr. Kyle White of Lubbock; her nephew, Justin Prather and his wife Holly of Lubbock; great nieces: Kate White, Presley Prather and Emily White of Lubbock; great nephew, Jackson Prather of Lubbock; and a host of extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in Resthaven Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home. Dr. Shera Atkinson, of First United Methodist Church, will be the officiant.
To those who wish to remember Nancy and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a memorial donation in her memory to a charity of one’s choosing.
