Nancy Warner Heese 04/05/1932-05/23/24
Nancy W. Heese (nee Warner); beloved wife of David William Heese DDS (June 24, 1931-April 13,2006); devoted mother of Paul G. Heese DDS (March 6, 1958-December 21,2020) and his former wife Lynn, Cindy G. Heese, Judy Heese Cool and her husband Dr. Jeffrey Cool and D. Bentley Heese and his wife Lisa. Dearly loved Nana of Hillary Cool, Melissa Cool, Emily Cool Keadle and her husband Matthew and son Levi Warner, Abigail Caitlin Cool, Robin Heese Herculson and her husband Russell, Allison Heese Bermudez and her husband David and daughter Cameron Elyse, Caroline Heese, Campbell Heese and fiancée Madeline Newkirk. Mom of 4, Nana of 8 and great Nana of 2.
Nancy's life began as a miracle as she and her twin brother Reverend Carroll Gardner "Pete" Warner were born prematurely weighing in around 2.5 pounds each in an era with technology that is archaic by today's standards. She grew up in Ednor Gardens near the old Memorial Stadium and later moved to Stoneleigh when it would have been considered rural even though only a mile north of the city line and graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore. From there she studied at Mary Washington College in VA and married David in 1954. They lived briefly in TX while David fulfilled a military service commitment and moved back to Baltimore where David completed his DDS. They settled in Baltimore, started their family and Dave's dental practice. After briefly living in the Pleasant Plains area of zip code 21212, Nancy and David and kids were able to move into Nancy's childhood home in Stoneleigh where they raised the family for more than 20 years. They moved one other time before assisted independent living phase but remained in 21212 for 40+ years.
Nancy was an amazing Mom to 4 kids, full of purpose and passion. She wore many hats but loved being MOM the best. Nancy and David were always very actively volunteering with Nancy more focused on the kids' activities. Need help with a flea market or a class mom or Brownies? Nancy. She and David both instilled a sense of volunteerism that has been passed on to the children and grands. Nancy served the medical community with a compassionate long term of volunteer service at Union Memorial Hospital. Nancy's travel passion also led her to becoming a travel agent booking many trips for her and David and family and others. The entire family experienced extensive travel as Nancy and David were very curious and loved traveling and exploring new cultures. It was important to them that the kids had that experience as well and Nancy and Dave took them on cruises to faraway places. One special cruise included a passage through the straits of Gibraltar where the family got to be a guest on the bridge of the ship. With the extensive cruising, they were treated like royalty on these ships. Between the family cruises(several cruises with 17 of us) and Nancy and David's extensive travel, they spent more than 1000 days at sea on cruise ships, their favorite mode when traveling.
The other passion was the beach. They fell in love with Stone Harbor New Jersey in the very early 70s and discovered the perfect beach block house that remained in the family for 40+ years. This was the revered gathering place where family would all come together and pack in way more people than beds. It was a spacious 4-bedroom house, but we still over filled the house with people and laughter. We had one less seat than people, so Nancy and Dave utilized a stool. The stool was so popular with the grandkids that they had a seating schedule when the whole family and kids were visiting, a brilliant and memorable solution. So many multi-generational memories were created by the time spent together in that wonderful house. Nancy and Dave remained fully committed and invested in being a big part of all their grandkid's activities as much as possible as the grandkids grew up.
Upon entering the independent section of the assisted living facility phase, Nancy and David initially were at Blakehurst where Nancy was quick to find opportunities to help. After David's passing in 2006, she moved to Pickersgill in 2008 where she lived until her passing. She ran the resident's sundry store, called bingo, picked movies and coordinated opportunities for residents to engage and discuss current events. She remained the faithful "go to" depend able and enthusiastic servant. Nancy didn't slow down much at all until her late 80s, partially slowed down during the Covid19 shutdown.
Nancy possessed a deep Faith that included an abundance of grace and resiliency her entire life, surviving a health event in the early 70s that she may not have lived through if they did not live near Johns Hopkins hospital. The last week of her life reflected so much of who she was and how she approached life. She had the rare opportunity to say goodbye to many family members before she passed peacefully. Nancy was surrounded by many granddaughters and both of her daughters at the time of her passing. She was a blessing to so many and leaves a strong legacy for her family to carry on into the future. A celebration of life is planned for a later date to be arranged.
A Celebration of Life will be celebrated on Saturday August 24, 2024, 11am at Timonium United Methodist Church 2300 Pot Spring Rd. Timonium MD 21093. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gilchrist Hospice or a charity of choice.
