RUTLAND – Nancy Cushing Howe, 93, of Rutland, died on March 6, 2022. Born in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of Ruth Merwin Cushing and Joseph Cushing. Attended Fitchburg public schools, Cushing Academy and Mt. Wachusett Community College School of Nursing. Worked at Oakdale Nursing Home and Worcester County Hospital. Volunteered at John Augustus Hall, League of Women Voters, Heifer Project and Wachusett Greenways. Was on the Eastern United States Ski Team in 1948. Ski raced on NASTAR ski teams through the age of 88. Enjoyed jump rope, bicycling, yodeling and watching football. Loved traveling to Europe, Alaska and all around the U.S.
Leaves her children, Peter C. Howe of Eagle, CO, Susan H. Cushing and her husband, Bill Wedin of Bellingham, WA and Sally M. Howe of Rutland; her brothers, Joe Cushing of Sugar Hill, NH, Matthew Cushing and his wife, Mary of Atco, NJ and sister-in-law, Merry Cushing of Amherst. Predeceased by her brother, John Cushing; her sister-in-law, Mary Mitchell Cushing; and sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Mark Rogers; many nephews and nieces and their children and grandchildren. She was loved by many people.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, at the First Congregational Church of Princeton, 14 Mountain Road. A reception will follow in the church hall. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
