Nancy Kay Howe passed away at Essentia Hospital on January 10, 2025, with family at her side.
She was the second child of Robert and Mildred (Tallman) Schmidt and was born in Harvey ND.
She grew up in several ND towns, graduating from Ashley HS in 1972. She graduated from NDSSS in 1974 and moved to Fargo to begin her career in insurance claims with Pioneer Mutual and BC/BS, retiring in 2021.
She and Ernie were married in 1975 and became the proud parents of Nicole in 1977.
Nancy's love language was food. Her happy place was in the kitchen, she looked for recipes, tweaked the recipes and fed us all. Her specialty was cookies. Whether you worked with her or dropped by the cabin at Height of Land MN, you got the cookies. She loved kids and they were drawn to her, and of course her cookies. Her cookie jar was never empty. If she had known precisely when she would die she would have been busy baking all the cookies for the memorial.
She is survived by her daughter Nicole (Wayne Kading) Very of Isanti MN, her mother, Mildred of Ashley ND, sisters Deb (Rick) Ryberg, Val (Dave) Nelson, Eileen Pfarr all of Jamestown ND and brother Bob of Fargo, Brother in law Gerald (Carolee) Howe and Sister in law Julie (Russ) Smith all of Florida, niece Kiara (VJ) Larson of Moorhead, nephews Justin (Whitney) Schmidt and Ryan (David Raba) Schmidt all of NC, Ryan One Feather of Jamestown and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie, father Robert Schmidt, in laws Eugene and Evelyn Howe, brother in laws Bruce Howe and Jeff Pfarr.
Visitation: Friday, January 17, 2025, from 1:00-2:00 p.m., in West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
Memorial Service: Friday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m., in West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
