Nancy L Hughes, age 83 of Monroe passed away at her home due to natural causes on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
Nancy was born on September 7, 1939 in Waldwick Township, WI the daughter of Obert and Alpha (Runden) Swenson. She graduated from Hollandale/Blanchardville High School. Nancy married Edward Hughes on March 8, 1958 in Hollandale, WI. Edward and Nancy started E & N Hughes Co., Inc. of Monroe in 1975 and was co-owner with her husband until 2016. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and Monroe Moose Lodge.
When Nancy was younger, she enjoyed taking care of her flower garden where she attended to one of her favorite flowers, the gladiolus. She always appreciated a cup of coffee or dinner with family and friends. On a nice summer day, you could always find her driving around in her convertible. She especially enjoyed sharing the holidays with everyone, St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage, Easter dinner with her daughter-in-law's family, July 4th potluck at the house, preparing her Halloween chili and making sure Christmas was set just perfect for the family gathering.
She is survived by her three sons; Paul F. Hughes of Hollandale, Terry L (Laura) Hughes and Todd A. (Terri) Hughes, all of Monroe; Five grandchildren, Dale Hughes, Kristi (Ryan) Hughes Wuthrich, Jessica (Martin Jr.) Akins, Ryan (Emily) Hughes and Joe Hughes; eight great grandchildren, Cyrus, Olive, August, Lucille and Asher Akins, Levi, Zoey and Corby Hughes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Paul Hughes, Jr., brother Gaylord Swenson and sister Colleen Griffiths and former daughter-in-law Bonnie Hughes.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00am at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe with Reverend Todd Hackman officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home starting at 9:00am until time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Nancy's name. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
