Nancy Rebecca (Becky) Hutchins, age 71, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. She was a beloved mother, wife, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Becky was born on February 6, 1953, in Orangeburg, SC. She attended Winthrop University and South Carolina State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. She became a Special Needs Educator, starting at Bowman Elementary and finishing at Hilton Head Middle School. She retired after 37 years. Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.
But more than anything, Becky was a devoted mother. She loved spending time with her children, sharing stories, playing games, and watching their favorite TV shows. She was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced.
In her free time, Becky enjoyed going to church and the beach, watching sunsets, playing the piano, working in the yard, dancing with her husband, and spending time with her family.
Becky is preceded in death by her father Wilber C. Berry and mother Doris Smith Berry. She is survived by her brother Jerry Berry (Rhonda), her loving husband, Carl, of 49 years; children, Lisa Looper (Donnie), April Carmichael (Richard), Chauntee Hutchins (Tony Lester), and Jason Hutchins; her grandchildren, Wesley Carmichael (Erika), CJ Carmichael (Faruq), Richard Carmichael III, Tyler Looper (Dana) and William McManus. Great grandchildren Brooklyn and Evie. Her memory will be cherished forever by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Burroughs Funeral Home and Crematory, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, 29576 on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 2 o'clock.
