Nancy Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Overman-Jones Funeral Home on Jun. 18, 2025.
Mrs. Nancy Jean Johnson, age 78, passed away on Monday evening, June 16, 2025, at Alden Estates of Shorewood. She was born December 30, 1946, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of James and Gertrude Hagemeyer.
Nancy is survived and missed by her loving husband of 55 years, Richard Johnson and their three children Patrick (Jessica) Johnson of Oak Forest, Eric (Sarah) Johnson of Plainfield and Jaime (James) Sobecki of Lowell, IN. Forever cherished and remembered by her five grandchildren- Courtney, JR, Jacob, Jorie, Andrew and great grandchild Paisley. Beloved sister of Patricia Savocchi.
Nancy was born in Chicago and grew up on the south side with her family and several extended family members nearby. Her love for music was shown in her performances at Luther South where she attended High School. She later met Rich and they were married on September 25, 1970. The couple enjoyed building & selling homes which made them part of several communities including Woodridge, Naperville, Coral Springs (FL), Aurora, Plainfield, Michigan City (IN), Cape Coral (FL) and Shorewood. Nancy also had a love for traveling. Her and Richard explored several places together by plane, van or on a cruise. Some of their adventures included trips to: Hawaii, Ireland, Italy, Alaska, Mexico, Jamacia, France, Canada, Spain, Greece, and several others in the United States.
Faithfully watching her hometown baseball team the Chicago Cubs, Nancy would cheer them on from the stands or just watch them on TV, win or lose. Nancy loved the Cubbies – Go Cubs Go! Nancy worked at CTA when she met Richard, after marrying she then started working closer to home as a secretary at several schools in and around the Naperville Aurora area. She ended her career by retiring from Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora after many years working in the guidance department. She loved her time at WVHS, where she was able see all three of her children daily while they attended and made many friendships along the way. After retirement she was able to travel more and spend quality time with her grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 4:00-8:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 10:30 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Elisabeth Pynn Himmelman officiating. All are welcome to meet for the committal services at 12:30 PM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
