Nancy Layman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Glen Haven Chapel on Dec. 13, 2025.
Nancy Layman (LaSell) passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born on August 29, 1942, in Minneapolis and spent most of her life in Bloomington. She died in Golden Valley surrounded by the love of her family.

Nancy devoted 36 years to teaching and shaped the lives of countless students with patience, kindness, and steady guidance. She led Girl Scouts for nine years and believed deeply in helping children grow into confident, capable adults. She sent both of her daughters to college and took great pride in the paths they followed.

Life with her family brought her the greatest joy. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and stayed close to every one of them. She loved to bake and was known for her marvelous treats during holidays and family gatherings. Books were a constant companion. She shared a lifelong love of travel with her sister Sandy Strecker, and together they explored places near and far. Her faith was central to her life. A devout Christian, she loved singing hymns at church and found comfort in her beliefs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin R. Layman. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Layman Linares and Sandy (Andy) Cohen. Nancy's grandchildren brought her endless joy: Ryan, Cassandra and Anders Linares; Kristina and Robert Layman; and Martin and Caroline Cohen. She will be remembered with affection by her extended family and by all who were touched by her generosity and warmth.

Visitation will be held at Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Chapel, 5125 W Broadway, Crystal on December 19, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a service from 11 a.m. to noon. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Assembly Area Lane #2.

Nancy lived a life devoted to faith, family, and service. Her legacy lives on in the people she nurtured, taught, and loved.
