Keeta passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in Plano, TX.
Nancy Keeta Sockwell was born on July 22, 1946, in Wills Point, TX to parents, Chester Sockwell and Elizabeth Jane Johnson Sockwell. She was raised in Wills Point and graduated Valedictorian of Wills Point High School in 1964. Keeta later attended East Texas State University in Commerce and North Texas State University in Denton. She married Karl C. Lybrand III on September 23, 1966, in Dallas. Their first daughter, Michelle, was born in 1967, followed by their second daughter Amanda in 1973. They lived in Richardson for several years before moving back to Wills Point in 1985. Keeta was employed at First National Bank as a teller before becoming bank manager of the American National Bank mini branch in Terrell. She and Karl also operated the family-owned Majestic Theatre in Wills Point. She was a lifelong member of Russell Memorial Methodist Church. Keeta was an extremely talented artist whose home is filled with her artwork. She was also a gifted decorator and a wonderful cook. Her family cherished how she made their home truly magical at Christmas, holidays, and birthdays. Possibly Keeta's greatest passion was traveling with Karl to all their grandchildren's sporting events and activities. They traveled all over the country so they could be at all these games and events. Keeta's life revolved around her family and making sure everyone felt as though they were her favorite. Annual family vacations to Destin, FL were always a highlight, especially the memorable road trips to get there.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Elizabeth Sockwell; sister, Beth Butler; brother, Tim Sockwell; in-laws, K.C. and Jean Lybrand; and brother-in-law, Jack Lybrand.
Keeta is survived by her husband, Karl Lybrand of Wills Point, TX; daughter, Michelle Hobbs and husband John, of Canton, TX; daughter, Amanda Walker of Wills Point, TX; grandchildren, Nicholas Hobbs and fiancée McKenna Rainwater, Zachary Hobbs and fiancée Michaela Donnelly, Christopher Hobbs and Hannah Walker.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregivers: Kathy Williams, Diane Griser, Misty Ellison and Serena Ivie. Also, thank you to Dr. Cindy Marshall, Dr. Allison Thomas, NP, and Caltus Chaduka, RN and her compassionate staff.
