Nancy McAlister McInnis, 99, of Rockingham, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, surrounded by family and caregivers.

Nancy was born on September 7, 1926, in Biscoe, N.C., to Ezra Eugene and Minnie Blanche McAlister.

She graduated from Biscoe High School in 1943 and was named Miss Montgomery County of 1943. She then continued her education at Montreat College in Montreat, N.C.

Nancy married Lawrence Little McInnis in 1947. They made their home in Rockingham. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, served as a circle chairman, was honored with a life membership in the Presbyterian Women's Association, and was a member of the Lucy Russell Bible Class.

Nancy was happiest being a full-time mom and volunteering her time throughout the community. She was active in the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Richmond County Booster Club, and Richmond County Historical Society, where she served as a docent at the Leak-Wall House.

She was a licensed real estate broker and assisted in the family real estate business. She was instrumental in the opening and management of the North Carolina Motor Speedway ticket office.

Nancy's other interests and accomplishments included being active in the Richmond County Ladies Golf Association and winning a match play tournament. She was a master of bridge and played often with many of her dear friends.

Traveling was in her blood, and she took many trips to Africa to visit and help her sister, Martha, who served as a career missionary nurse. Other travels included Singapore to visit her nephew; Scotland with a group of friends from Rockingham; Israel with a travel group; Germany to visit friends; and Australia and New Zealand with her granddaughter. There were few countries untouched by Nancy. Aside from international travel, she took many trips to North and South Carolina beaches and yearly trips to Florida.

Nancy deeply loved spending time with her family, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and considered them her greatest joys. She spent many hours freezing, canning, cooking, and feeding her family and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Little McInnis; her son, Lawrence Little McInnis, Jr. (Larry); her son-in-law, Hobby Streater; her brothers, Howard McAlister of Laurinburg, David McAlister of Biscoe, and James McAlister of Charlotte; her sisters, Carol Myers of Biscoe, Jane Green of Star, and Martha McAlister of Aberdeen.

Surviving are her sons, Michael McInnis of Swansboro and Rockingham, Richard McInnis and wife Meredith of Swansboro and Rockingham; her daughter, Susan Streater of Wadesboro; and her grandchildren, Maggie Rose Streater, Connor Ross McInnis, and Dare Rankin McInnis. Her sister, Becky Allison of Indian Trail. Numerous nieces and nephews and step grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place Sunday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Rockingham, N.C., with visitation with the family to follow in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy's memory to First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham, 904 Fayetteville Road, Rockingham, N.C., or to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US HWY. #1 N Rockingham, NC 28379.
