Nancy Merena Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chandler Funeral Homes & Crematory - Hockessin on Dec. 4, 2025.
Nancy Lynn Merena, 86, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, teacher, sister, friend, grandmother (Nana), and truly an angel on earth. Nancy dedicated her life to her children and her students, and her gentle guidance and leadership left a lasting impact on many over the years.

Nancy was born in Lakewood, Ohio, in 1939, and grew up in Birmingham, Michigan. She later moved to Delaware, where she earned her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Delaware. While her children were teenagers, she attended a school in Rochester, New York, to receive her Montessori teaching certificate. Passionate about the Montessori method of teaching, Nancy spent much of her career at Wilmington Montessori, the Montessori preschool at St. Matthew's, and primarily at CACC Montessori. Many students will fondly remember Miss Nancy for her gentle and patient spirit.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Jack, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She is also survived by her three children: Beth Kretzing and her husband, Dale, Marcia Merena-Conkey, and Jeff Merena. Additionally, Nancy leaves behind eight grandchildren: Morgan, Luke, Ben, Lori, Lauren, Jackson, Amelia, and Noah, along with her sister, Robbie, and brother, Bridy.

A celebration of life will be held at Chandler Funeral Home, located at 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707, on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your local library.
