Robert B. Cooling, Sr., a kind, loving, and humorous husband, father,
grandfather, brother, and friend, entered his heavenly home on
February 10, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 27,
1952, in
Wilmington, Delaware, Bob lived a life dedicated to his family
and service towards others.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Chris Cooling; his children: Rob
Cooling, Jr., (Lee Ann), Melissa Munson (Nick); his grandchildren,
Solomon Cooling, Natalie, and Emma Munson; his siblings, Jeff Cooling
and Suzanne Crompton as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
After graduating from the University of Delaware, Bob worked as the
Director of Construction for John Wanamaker stores in both
Philadelphia and Wilmington. After relocating to Washington, West Virginia, in 1993, he concluded his
long career as a proud DuPont employee at the Washington Works plant, serving as a buyer of contract
services.
Bob and Chris retired to western North Carolina in February 2012 and joined Mud Creek Baptist Church,
where they quickly became active in Sunday School, Samaritan's Purse, and the Carpenter's Hands
Ministry, delivering firewood to those in need in remote mountain locations. Bob also served as a
Deacon at Mud Creek for many years. He cherished spending time with others, whether chopping wood
or sharing a cup of coffee and discussing the Word. Known for his quick wit and signature "dad jokes,"
Bob was beloved by all and genuinely valued everyone he met.
Bob loved all things mechanical, whether it was cars, trains, boats, or tinkering in the garage or
basement; he appreciated the beauty and engineering. As an avid reader, he always had something new
to read on the side table next to his big comfy chair, where he would also solve the daily Wordle and
share his score. You could find him on the weekends, cheering on his grandchildren from the sidelines
and then sitting in his favorite pew or seat at church on Sunday mornings.
Though he will be deeply missed on this side of eternity, his family praises God for all He has done to
bring comfort and peace during this time with a renewed belief that "He will wipe every tear from their
eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed
away." Revelation 21:4
Family and friends are welcome to gather for a Celebration of Life on March 14 between 12:00-4:00 pm
