Nancy Piermarini passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 26, 2024, at the age of 95 years after a brief time in the hospital. She is now with Mugsy, her husband of 75 years, who died in 2021.
She was born in Clinton, Mass, on November 30, 1928, and lived a long and wonderful life in Leominster, her last 68 years in her home on West Street, where she raised her family.
Nancy graduated from Leominster High School and went on to earn her Nursing Degree at the Leominster Hospital Nursing School in 1950 and worked as a Registered Nurse there and at various nursing homes in the greater Leominster area until her retirement in 2000 at age 72. In the late 60's she spent the summer with the family at Camp Wanocksett, the Nashoba Valley Council's Boy Scout camp in Jaffrey, NH where Mugsy was a Camp Commissioner and Nancy served as Chief of Protocol or the Camp Social Director.
During the late 60's and 70's, she actively participated in the ski racing program at Pheasant Run helping to run her children's ski races each weekend, traveling to all the races with a VW van full of Ski Team members throughout the winter.
She was active in many aspects of community life in Leominster, serving as the President of the Womens' Republican Club for several years, working at the Polls in every election since 1960 and, becoming the Registrar of Voters in 2010. She was also a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Leominster.
In 1971 she and her family began spending summers at the Cape in Wellfleet where she made many friends. It was her special place to relax and enjoy the cool breeze from the Bay while entertaining friends and neighbors almost nightly on her deck, preparing feasts of the local seafood & shellfish caught by her family. Not to be outdone, Nancy became an excellent oyster gatherer herself in recent years. She loved the "salt air" as she claimed it cured all ailments. She also loved to go to the Wellfleet beaches, where she would see 13 of her family members work as lifeguards during those years.
She always enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. Nancy and Mugsy chaperoned three trips of local high school students to Europe and traveled with their family several times to Europe. They also took their family on two summer long camping trips across the US and back. First in '68 with the whole family and again in '78 both times in their VW Vans. At the age of 75 years young she and Mugsy enjoyed a 6 day wilderness-camping, white-water rafting trip down the Colorado River where they slept under the stars and where Mama earned the nickname "Wilderness Woman"! They also fell in love with Maui and traveled to the Hawaiian Islands many times.
Nancy was an avid card player, involved in many bridge clubs over the years. When not playing bridge, she taught her children and grandchildren how to play numerous card games, but never intentionally letting the kids win. Nancy loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother! She never missed an opportunity to tell anyone and everyone about all of the exploits and accomplishments of her family.
