Nancy Prell Obituary

Nancy Lu Prell, age 76, of Watkinsville, Georgia, passed away on October 5, 2025 at Angels Garden Personal Care Home following a courageous battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease. Nancy was born December 30, 1948, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Donald and Mary Clayton. She graduated from Oregon (WI) High School C/o 1967 and married Dale Prell, the love of her life, in September of 1968. At that time she immediately became a military spouse as Dale then served 4 years active duty in the Air Force. Both Dale and Nancy continued their selfless service to their Country with honor by working with the Civil Service, United States Air Force. After several moves, Nancy concluded her service working with the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) program as a financial analyst at Warner Robins Air Force Base, where she retired in 2009.

Most importantly, Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her 46 year marriage to Dale was a reflection of grace, quiet strength and a legacy of love that has impacted her children and grandchildren. She loved her kids, Brian and Amy, passionately which was matched only by the immense love she had for her six grandchildren, who knew her simply as Nana. Nana treasured all of the holiday getaways with her family over the years at numerous rented cabins and lakes throughout north Georgia. These memorable times were full of laughter, board games, boating, and even a family talent show.

Above all, Nancy’s life was defined by a steadfast love for the Lord, a devotion that only matured and deepened with the passing of the years. She lived each day with a trust in the Lord that carried her through both life’s joys and challenges. The Lord blessed her abundantly with a group of women she lovingly called her “soul sisters.” They shared a beautiful commitment to support and walk with each other home to heaven. In her last years, it was not uncommon to hear praise music permeating her room, providing a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Dale B. Prell. Nancy is survived by her children, Brian E. Prell (Leigh) and Amy P. Hunter (Jim). Nancy cherished her grandchildren: Braeden Prell (Caroline) of Athens, GA; Caleb Hunter (Maddie) Chicago,IL; Macie Hunter and Joshua Hunter of Watkinsville, GA; Ansleigh Prell and Cailyn Prell of Bogart, GA. She is also survived by her siblings, Dan Clayton (Mary Lou) of Brooklyn, WI, Tim Clayton (Joan) of Florida, and Tom Clayton (Rhonda) of Oregon, WI. She was also preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Lee Clayton (Mona), and her sister Barbara Ann “Barbie” Clayton.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the Lord and Stephens Chapel, Watkinsville, GA, on Saturday, October 11th. Interment will follow at a later date in Canton, Georgia at the Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Athens Church C/o the Athens I Love You campaign, which donates 100% of funds raised to local Athens non-profits directly impacting lives in our community.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all who have offered prayers and support during this difficult time.
