Nancy Tompkins Rester, 74, of Jackson passed away at Mobile Infirmary on Saturday, September 7, 2024. She was born on October 9, 1949 to her parents Robert Louis Tompkins and Mary Margaret (Coleman) Tompkins.
Nancy was a devout Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grove Hill, Alabama. Nancy loved her role as a mom. She encouraged her children to follow their passions, and she was there every step of the way. She attended every band concert, Band Boosters meeting, chaperoned every band trip. Nancy shied away from the spotlight and stayed behind the camera. She was everyone's hero.
Nancy had many hobbies; her biggest being crochet. She made sure every baby she knew about had a soft blanket, even the babies she never met. All of her friends and family had a steady supply of her beautiful dish cloths. Some of her other passions included cross-stitching, collecting Blue Willow, and journaling. Nancy never missed her morning quiet time with her devotional books and rosary. Her life was the embodiment of the St. Francis Prayer. She was a wonderful wife and dedicated caregiver to her loving husband. She was devoted to her grandchildren, "grandcats" and her "cat daughter" Rosie. She was the best Mamee to all of them! In her later years, Nancy became a homebody enjoying her quiet times with her husband and cat.
Predeceased by her parents, Robert "Toots" Tompkins and Margaret Tompkins, brothers; Robert "Bobby" Tompkins, and James "Jimmy" Tompkins.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James "Woody" Rester; children, Reagan (Jeremy) Rousse and James (Mirella Gable) Rester, her cat daughter Rosie; grandchildren James "Jack" Rousse and Juliet Rousse, grandcats Bilbo, Lily, Peanut, and Mewmew, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
