Nancy Ann Prout Shrum, 87, a long-time resident of Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Born on June 21, 1938 in Michigan, Nancy was the daughter of the late Percy L. Prout, a geologist from Sandusky, Michigan, and Elizabeth Ann Strayer of Michigan. She graduated from Miland High School in 1956.

Nancy married her beloved husband, Kenneth Lee Shrum in 1956, and they shared a life of commitment and faith until his passing. The couple moved to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1969 where they became active members of the community. Nancy had a deep and lifelong commitment to her Catholic faith, serving as the dedicated Director of Religious Education for 17 years at St. Helena's Catholic Church in Hobbs. 

In 1955, Nancy and Kenneth moved to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico where they owned and operated Chili Bowl Lanes and Lounge. There Nancy continued her ministry, taught confirmation classes and played piano at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. A gifted, self-taught keyboard player, she shared her musical talent by playing the organ at St. Francis Xavier Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lee Shrum; her daughter, Cynthia Zaada Hailey; and her son, Kevin Shrum.

She is survived by her children: Gary Shrum, Deborah (Stephen) Hayes, Elizabeth Ann Shrum, Michael Lee Shrum, and Kenneth (Amy) Lee Shrum, Jr. 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. 

She also leaves behind her cherished friend, Diane Bates, family members Jan and Bob Thriller, Mary and Dean Seely, Bill and Leona Shrum, and many other friends and family. 

Services will be held at a future date in Hobbs, New Mexico.
