Nancy Nichols Simmons, age 81, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Born in Cedartown, Georgia, on June 11, 1944, Nancy was the daughter of the late Lloyd B. Nichols and Evelyn C. Wright Nichols. She graduated from Cedartown High School in 1962 and went on to earn her degree from The University of Georgia in 1966.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph “Red” Simmons, and her sister, Carolyn Nichols Walker.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Michelle Simmons Payne, and son-in-law Chris Payne of Alpharetta, GA; her grandchildren, Becca Parham and Merritt Parham; and her nieces: Lynn Walker Kirby and her husband Steve of Cumming, GA, along with their children, Lyndsay Kirby Wilson (Timothy) and Josh Kirby; Stacey Walker Stanley and her husband Ira of Vinings, GA and Bonita Springs, FL; and Elissa Walker Campbell and her husband Colin of Cumming, GA, with their daughters, Catie Campbell and Evie Campbell.
Known for her kindness, strength, and warm spirit, she touched the lives of many throughout her years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private family graveside service will be held to honor Nancy’s life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
