Nancy Elois Sims, beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, in
Lindsay, Oklahoma, at the age of 85. She was born on August 18, 1940, in
Howe, Oklahoma, to Elmer Sumner and Lottie Anna (Luton) Sumner.
Nancy spent her early years in Howe and attended school in several Oklahoma communities, including Wynnewood, Florence Chapel in Paoli, and Pauls Valley. As a young girl, she took on the role of caregiver early, helping raise her siblings while also playing baseball and learning the value of hard work and family.
Her working life began in the garment industry, where she was employed at Kelwood Pants Factory in Pauls Valley and later at the pants factory in Wayne, Oklahoma. However, her greatest contributions came as a caregiver. Nancy served in nursing homes, hospitals, and private residences, offering compassion and support to those in need. In the final stretch of her career, she worked in her brother's grocery store in Durant, Oklahoma - continuing her lifelong commitment to serving others.
A woman of deep faith, Nancy was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God (now Light of the World) and later attended the Assembly of God in Durant before moving to Lindsay, where she lived out her later years.
Nancy had a deep love for the outdoors. She found joy in fishing, deer hunting, and camping - especially the quiet moments, like sitting in a car in the pouring rain with her daughter Louise, waiting for the fish to bite. She cherished shopping trips, particularly those to Crossroads Mall in Oklahoma City with Louise. The two shared dreams, drew pictures of houses they imagined living in, and built a bond that was inseparable.
Known for her unbeatable cornbread dressing and her love for being a mother, Nancy brought warmth, wisdom, and joy to everyone around her. She had a special gift for teaching others to live fully and do what's right.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Louise Temple and husband Terry of Paoli, Oklahoma; Brothers, Charles Sumner of Durant, Oklahoma, Billy Sumner of Paoli, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Lottie (Luton) Sumner; Brothers, Don Sumner and wife Joyce, Lynn Sumner and wife Ruth; and sister-in-law, Betty Sumner.
