Val Reneau Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by YANDA & SON FUNERAL HOME - YUKON on Jan. 16, 2026.
PLEASE NOTE: THE DATE OF THE SERVICE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO FEBRUARY 1, 2026.

Val Carlton Reneau was born on April 17th, 1941, to V.C. and Janet Reneau in Ingleside, TX. Val went to be with Jesus at the age of 84 on January 12, 2026, in Weatherford, OK.

He grew up in Healdton, OK but moved to Cushing during elementary school where he later graduated from Cushing High School in 1959. His junior year he was a part of the 1958 State football championship team. After graduating, he played football at the University of Tulsa before transferring to Central State University, where he played linebacker. In 1962, he was a member of Central State's NAIA championship team.

In 1960 Val met Sharon Calvert and they were later married on July 28, 1962. They were blessed with two children, Robyn and Val Carlton II.

Val devoted much of his life to coaching and mentoring young athletes. He began his coaching career at John Marshall High School and later coached at Will Rogers High School. He then returned to Central State University as a coach, where he earned his master's degree. Around 1970, Val joined Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he coached football and helped lead the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He retired from Southeastern in Durant, OK.

After retiring from coaching, Val and his family moved to Lindsay, OK, where he worked in the oilfield for more than 20 years.

Throughout his life, Val enjoyed riding and training horses, training dogs, and going on trail rides. Visitors to his home were often treated to a walk through the pasture to meet his horses. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes. Val was also active in his church, where he faithfully served as a deacon. He and Sharon were involved in a group called Singing Seniors, where he formed many lifelong friendships.

He was preceded in death by his parents, V.C. and Janet Reneau; his sister, Patsy Rowden; his grandson Rance Ridling; and his great-grandson Brayden Hayes.

He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Sharon Reneau; his two children, Robyn Ridling and her husband, Ronny, of Sentinel, and Val Reneau and his wife, Rhonda, of Durant; and his five grandchildren, who knew him as Pappy-Ryan, Richelle, Risa, Ciera, and Cody. He is also survived by his eleven great-grandchildren: Zoie, Zaylie, Emma, Bracket, Rance, Canyon, Conleigh, Hadleigh, Hayden, Conner, and Hayley; his brother, Harrison Dan Reneau, of Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Yukon, OK.

Memorial donations may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, 300 Johnny Bench Drive, Suite 450, Oklahoma City, OK 73104, or online at obhc.org.
