Nancy Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beachwood Society - Naples on Dec. 9, 2025.
It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, and grandmother, Nancy Smith, who left us peacefully in her sleep on December 7, 2025, at home in Naples, FL after a four year battle with ALS. She was born in Bronxville, NY on October 10, 1955 to Larry and Carolyn Lindars. She was a source of strength, creativity, and support to all who knew her.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 45 years Richard (Jack) Smith, her daughter Grace Gothard and son Kyle Smith, and her six grandchildren, Jack, Colton, Tatum, Isla, Eloise and Owen, who brought her immense joy. She is preceded in death by her beloved child, Carolyn Hanna, whom she now joins in eternal peace. Nancy is also survived by her brothers John, Bill and Chip and her sister Holly.

She grew up in Connecticut and moved to Summit, NJ. Nancy graduated Summit High School in 1974. She graduated Syracuse University in 1978 in upstate NY with a B.A. in Fine arts.

She was married in Summit, NJ in 1980 and lived for 43 years in Chatham, NJ. When Jack retired from medical equipment sales for GE Healthcare in January 2016, they bought a second home in Naples, FL. In 2022, they sold the Chatham house and moved full time to Naples due to her illness.

Nancy will be remembered for her profound passion for card games especially duplicate bridge. She earned her ACBL Life Master after ten years of collecting bridge tournament points. Nancy also enjoyed painting with watercolors, oil and pastels and sold her work locally. Nancy was an amazing person and mother, always creating a loving home for every holiday and celebration. Over the years, she enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and hosting parties with her friends. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and quiet strength-one that will remain alive in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Over the course of 4+ years with ALS, she always remained positive and never complained about her situation.

Per Nancy's wishes, there will be no formal service held, rather a family gathering to celebrate her life.
