Nancy Lee Snow
1942 – 2025
Nancy Lee Snow, 83, of Corydon, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 24 at Corydon Specialty Care with her family by her side.
Nancy was born February 9, 1942 in
Nevada, Iowa the daughter of Lee and Marcella Eileen (Bullock) Myers. They then moved to Percy, Iowa. She was joined later by her sister, Donna Jean.
At the young age of 12, Nancy was taken to Minnesota with Kidney issues. She made medical history with Penicillin. She then became allergic to penicillin later in life. Nancy was wheelchair bound and home-schooled till the 8th grade. They moved to Monroe when the Red Rock Dam was being built and she finished schooling in Monroe. After she graduated, she went to AIB College.
Nancy married the love of her life, Joel Brian Snow, on August 5, 1962. To this union 5 children were raised, Brenda, Brian, Brentt, Brandi and Bridgett. After working for a couple of years, she decided to stay at home and raise their children and babysit on the side. Raising 5 children was adventurous. Joel and Nancy lived in Des Moines, Iowa. Nancy babysat kids and Joel worked at driving a Beer Delivery truck. They made occasional trips to Lake Marie for little camping get aways. They also took time visiting and talking with Charlie and Ila Yates in South Lineville. In 1977, they packed up the family and purchased their very own business a liquor store and called it Snow's Liquor. They owned and operated Snow's Liquor for 43 plus years. Many changes and upgrades were made throughout the years. They were involved in many activities chasing their 5 children. They had lots of sporting events and lots of driving lessons with the kids.
Joel passed away in 2005, and Nancy continued to run the family business with her family by her side and helping when needed. One of the best things about living in a house attached to your business, you could do some things like WATCHING HER FAVORITE WESTERNS and playing with her cat, Kelly. Nancy kept busy making time for the grandkid's events and little joy rides. She loved it when they came to visit. Nancy loved her weekend outings even if they were just a drive or a trip to the store. She would go visit her sister by meeting her in Chariton, eating at Hardee's and then to the Dollar Tree Store, their favorite. Bridgett started taking Nancy to meet in Chariton when she was unable to drive. The laughter between Nancy and Jeannie was unforgettable even though the store clerks would get a chuckle out of them and looked forward to them coming every weekend. Of course, they tried to always make a drive around Lake Marie. They both enjoyed talking with customers and especially being nice with the Law Officers and State Troopers, Brian Shelly, Gail Teeter, Allen Fry, Chuck Hedrick and Lew who would stop in and just say hi and get a soda. The family greatly appreciates and thanks them for always checking on Joel and Nancy. The delivery and salesman. Mark and Matt and the Miller crew that came to the store hold a special place in the families' hearts. They love them very much.
There were some noticeable changes in Nancy in 2018 and she was diagnosed with Dementia. Her family had to help her a little more. In 2019, she was ready to retire and the store was closed. She stayed at home and watched TV, played with her cat and tinkered around the house. With her family stepping in and helping a little more she was still given time alone, but she looked forward to them walking through the door. She specially liked it when Blakleigh would come with Krista to have a little snack. In August 2024, with a lot of careful consideration and needing more care and safety, Nancy moved into the Corydon Care Center. Her family hated the idea that she was leaving home, but they knew it was the best. She brought a lot of joy around her. She was quite comical with the staff. She enjoyed her hugs and kisses. The staff referred to her as mom. PS. From Bridgett, "I enjoyed seeing you every day at work. It did not matter what shift I would always try to find you and give you a hug and kiss and tell you we loved you." Nancy would reply with a laugh and a giggle.
Her family will remember the stories Brenda and Cleo dog (Driving Lesson) and Brian, the wooden spoon and mayonnaise jar. The time mom and dad went for a drive in a Lincoln Town car and came home in a Volkswagen bug, Herbie, with mom holding a flashlight as a headlight. Oh, the stories they will not forget.
Left to cherish her memories are her sister, Donna Jean; her kids, Brenda Stark, Brian and Kate Snow, Brentt and Krista Snow, Brandi and Jim Laswell and Bridgett and Jon Kent; grandchildren, Tim (Kim), Crystal (Ben), Stephanie (Travis), Derrick (Holly), Christina (Tyler), Jacob and Cami, Brittany, Jessica (Jordan), James (Samantha), Chad, and Samantha; 19 great-grandkids; 5 great-great-grandkids; many nieces and nephews and many friends and relatives.
In addition to her husband, Joel, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws and her son-in-law, Danny Stark.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 31, at Roberson Funeral Home,
