Nancy Stokes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Griffith Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 20, 2025.
On Friday, December 19, 2025, Nancy Marie (McMillin) Stokes, surrounded by her loving family and in the home she loved, passed away.

Nancy was born to Anna Rita (Mills) and George McMillin in Brentwood, PA, on June 22, 1942. She graduated from Brentwood High School and then attended Duquesne University where she majored in English. Fate intervened and after two years of college, she met and married the love of her life, her beloved, late husband, Frank Stokes. Nancy and Frank made their home in Baldwin where they raised four daughters.

Nancy volunteered at Sickman Elementary School while the girls were little. She also taught C.C.D. classes and was active in the Women's Guild at Nativity Church. Later, Nancy began caring for her grandchildren while their parents worked. This turned into her running a little daycare center in her home. Nancy filled her time with the things she loved to do: read, garden, bake (chocolate chip cookies were her specialty!) and keep up with her family's many and varied activities.

Nancy was the loving mother of Rita Marie Hustava, Laura Ellen (Jeff) Shoup, Kathleen Elizabeth Stokes and Nancy Lorraine (Christopher) Layton; the devoted and cherished Nunny to her eight grandchildren: Michael (Maggie) Hustava, Thomas (Nicole) Hustava, Olivia Shoup, Cailyn and Aidan Murray and Sydney, Riley and Ryan Layton; to her four great grandchildren: Mary Margaret and Lucille Ann Hustava, and Veronica Gabriella and Nico Thomas Hustava; and to her niece, Sarah McMillin.

Nancy is survived by her sister, Sr. Marilyn McMillin, C.D.P, who lovingly and diligently cared for her over the last five years; and by her brother George (Susan) McMillin.

Nancy's family would like to sincerely thank the AHN Hospice Team that cared for her in such a kind and tender way. We are forever grateful to Mila, Sue, Cheryl, Abby and Chaplain Henry.

Friends received Friday, December 26, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the GRIFFITH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5636 Brownsville Road, (at 6th St.) South Park Twp. (412) 655-4600.
