Nancy Doreen (Lahti) Ayers Tatom, born on February 21, 1938, in Virginia, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025. She lived a full and vibrant life, marked by her dedication to both her family and community, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and service.
Nancy finished her career as a secretary at Peachtree Mall, where her organizational skills and warm demeanor made a positive impact on all who knew her. Education was always important to her; she graduated from Roosevelt High School in Virginia, Minnesota, and furthered her studies at the Minnesota School of Business, which laid the foundation for her successful professional journey.
An active member of her community, Nancy found joy and fulfillment through various organizations. She was a dedicated volunteer at St. Francis Hospital's Gift Shop and served with pride as a Docent for the Springer Opera House Guild. Her commitment to social interaction led her to join the Fountain City Twirlers Square Dance Club and participate in the East Alabama/West Georgia Federation of Square Dancers. Her dedication even extended to her role on the Board of Directors for the Georgia State Square Dancers Association, where she served as Insurance Chairman. Nancy also attended Maranatha Baptist Church and was a proud member of Fort Benning Chapter #278 Order of Eastern Star.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Alva M. Tatom, and her children, Kenneth Ayers and his girlfriend Christi Current, and Kimberly Connell, along with her husband Jeff Connell. Nancy's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Cody and Heather Connell, Kevin and Baylee Connell, and Kirby Connell and his girlfriend Cayden Davison. She was a cherished great-grandmother to Scout, Sunni, Stetson, and Boone Connell. Additionally, Nancy was a stepmother to Rick and Carol Tatom, John and Kari Tatom, and Carol and Keith Merrill and step-grandchildren Nathaniel, Kevin, and Matilda Merrill.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Flora Lahti, and her first husband, Albert Ronald Ayers.
Her funeral service will be held on August 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with a visitation following at 11:00 a.m., at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory located at 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, Georgia.
Nancy Doreen (Lahti) Ayers Tatom’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, strength, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed.
