Mrs. Nancy Emily Turner Shively, age 86, of Ferrum, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at her home. She was born on December 5, 1938, to the late Homer Stephen Turner and Lillian Mize Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband (father of her children), Claude Herman Handy; her husband, David Henderson Shively, Sr.; two sisters, Shirley Turner Moore and Marie Foster; four brothers, Oran Akers “Bob” Turner, Walter Turner, Cecil “Mop” Turner, and Clyde Roosevelt Turner; one half-sister, Catherine “Cassie” Seagraves; two half-brothers, Gene Turner and Irvin Turner; one stepson; and two step grandchildren. She was a member of the Elamsville Primitive Baptist Church. She worked for Home Healthcare and did private duty nursing for a number of years. She took pride in her work and dearly loved helping her patients. Nancy will be remembered as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved her family dearly and treasured spending time with them.
Nancy is survived by two daughters; Deena Whitlow (Bill) of Henry, VA and Renee Fulcher (Jeff) of Ferrum, VA ; a son, Ricky Handy of Stuart, VA; granddaughters, Shannon Gillian (Christian), Tennille Fizzano (Matt) and Nicole Whitlow; great-granddaughters, Carlena Fizzano and Bella Fizzano; step-daughters, Sherry Leigh Fulton, Nancy Jefferson (Ron), and Elizabeth Shively (Darryl); a step-son, David Shivley, Jr.; 6 step grandchildren; one brother, Curtis Turner; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Louise Webb, Pat Hall, Brandi Mullins, Lori Beth Watkins-Cassell, Bonnie Gusler, Peggy Hale, Marilyn Cassidy, Jamie Elgin, and Mountain Valley Hospice.
A funeral service for Mrs. Shively will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Zach Byrd and Elder David Minter officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Turner Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Turner Family Cemetery Fund, c/o, Renee Fulcher, 786 Fairystone Park Road, Ferrum, VA 24088.
