Roger Carl Shively, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025 in Lynchburg, Virginia. A devoted husband, loving son and father, and faithful servant of Christ, Roger lived a life grounded in faith, family, and service.
Born a man of strong convictions, a very talented musician and love of the land, Roger was known for his unwavering devotion to God and his family. A proud and faithful member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church, he served for many years as a deacon, always ready to lend a hand, offer encouragement or share the Word.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Geneva Shively, his sister Vicky, a granddaughter, Brooklyn, a brother-in-law Bob Greenawalt and his beloved wife, Bonnie Bowling Shively.
He is survived by sons, Ricky Dale Shively and Carl James Shively, and three grandsons, James Allen, Ethan, and Evan. He also leaves behind his sisters, Bonnie Greenawalt and Patricia Davis (Ron), as well as several in-laws: Wayne Bowling (Margie), Jane Hodges (Roger), and Robin Whitmer (Bev). In addition, a special niece Donna (Tom) and many other nieces and nephews who were very special to Roger.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Conner Bowman Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 PM Friday, May 9, 2025 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Covey officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2 PM.
Roger's life was a testament to his faith - a steady, humble light in the lives of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
