Nancy Welsh Obituary

Nancy Gail Welsh, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away suddenly and too soon on January 7, 2026.
Nancy was born to Oscar and Rose Schmidt in Mount Pleasant MI where she grew up as one of five children. When she married William Patrick Welsh they moved to Northville where their two sons, Joe and Tim were born. Later the family relocated to their long-term home in Plainwell where Nancy was employed as an administrator for a dental practice. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working in her garden. A dedicated Detroit Tigers fan, she shared a love of baseball with her whole family, spending many weekends traveling to watch her sons play. Nancy's real joy came from devotion to family. Upon the death of her husband, she sold her home to move to Lowell to be closer to her toddler grandsons upon whom she lavished attention, playing with them at every opportunity, doing art projects with them and telling them stories.
Nancy is lovingly remembered by her family: son Joseph James Welsh and his wife Elissa Unger; son Timothy Patrick Welsh and his wife Emily; grandchildren William Sanderson Welsh, Kelly Bradford Welsh and Quinn Jennette Massey; siblings Gary (Deanna) Schmidt, Barbara (Dick) Russel, Tim (Debbie) Schmidt, Tom (Julie) Schmidt.
A gathering to celebrate Nancy's wonderful life will be held in the spring when the flowers begin to bloom and the Tigers she loved are rounding the bases. She is missed.

Nancy was my friend. In childhood we put on make up to look like kitty cats and in junior high, as was common those days, she sat on the handlebars of my bicycle and we rode past the home of Jim Dietz, who we had a crush on. Nancy was fun, full of energy, and a wonderful friend. She had the most beautiful brown eyes and eyelashes - prettier than Marlo Thomas' (a t.v. star at the time known for her beautiful eyes). Nancy was a dependable, kind friend. Prayers for her family. May they be comforted with rich memories of Nancy and the knowledge that she was beloved by many.
