Nathan Allen Druivenga was born at home in Boulder, Montana on October 10, 1979. He passed away at his
Lexington, Kentucky home on June 23, 2025 at age 45. He was the son of Dana Jerome Druivenga (Iowa City) and Deborah Myers Pitt (Ames, Iowa). He was the beloved step-son of Raymond W. Pitt since April 1986.
During his early years in Montana he lived in Boulder, Basin, Bozeman, and Billings. He attended elementary school in Iowa City. He moved to Fayetteville, NC at age 12 to live with his mother, step-father, sister and brothers. High school years were spent in Colorado. Nathan was active in soccer, baseball, roller hockey, and Bible Bowl. He loved sports. He was full of life. He loved music, playing guitar and drums, rock music, and was very proud of having beaten all levels of Guitar Hero. He played Disc golf on many weekends with friends and family.
From a young age, Nathan had exceptional potential, achieving distinction in the field of Mathematics. He obtained degrees from Indiana University and University of Iowa, including a Phd in Applied Mathematics. He held teaching positions at various colleges and universities, most recently at University of Kentucky, where he resided nine years during the final years of his life. Nathan loved teaching. He reached many students who previously struggled with math. He was loved by many of his students throughout his career. Friends, teachers, and colleagues encouraged Nathan to complete his education; notably Professor Charles Frohman.
In November 2016, after relocating to Kentucky, a son was born to him and his wife, April Loya (formerly Druivenga). Charles Marlon Druivenga was the greatest blessing in Nathan's life. To honor his memory are numerous loved ones, family, friends and colleagues. His father Dana Druivenga Iowa City, his son Charles Marlon Druivenga, his son's mother April Loya (formerly Druivenga) of Lexington, sister Satara (Scott) Fairweather Des Moines, Iowa, brothers Kyle Pitt of St. Paul, MN and Sid Pitt (Michelle) Wilmington, NC. Aunt and uncles include Marlon Druivenga (Twyla), Randall Druivenga, Alan (Donelle) Druivenga, Lynette Hanthorn, Sandy & Jerry Nelson Woodward Ia, Russell & Patti Myers Clive Ia, Gary Myers West Des Moines and Cathy Textor Ames, Ia. Cousins include Chris Newland of Woodward Ia, Stacey Newland of Johnston Ia, Shane Harkin of Sioux City Ia, Ryan Harkin of Stratford Ia, Laura Myers of Des Moines, Kristen Myers of Des Moines, Brian (Laura Lynn) Myers of Adel Ia, Annie (Kevin) Graham of Clive and Charles (Amanda) Myers of Des Moines, Kelly (Vicki) Harkin (Gretna, LA), Jason (Tiffany) Druivenga, Taylor Druivenga, Melissa (James) Cromwell, Paul Cates, Eric Cates, Shannon (Stacy) Druivenga plus numerous paternal and maternal 2nd cousins. Some names and addresses are unknown. Nathan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Fred and Lavine (Hinz) Druivenga of Carroll County Iowa, maternal grandparents Charles Russell Myers and Lois (Chapin) Myers of Dallas County Iowa, Aunt Bonnie Richard, Aunt Lorene Cates, Aunt Diane Myers, and Uncle Joel Druivenga. He was loved and will be missed by Colorado friends and all extended family. A Private Life Remembrance will be held.
