Thanks to all of you for keeping Nathan's memory alive. I know he will never be forgotten. He touched so many lives. Mainly mine. He taught me much more than I taught him. I was so blessed to be apart of his life. I know that everyone whom he meet were his friends from that moment forward. He loved everyone, I know this is why he did what he did, to give us the freedoms we still have yet today. If he were still alive I know that he would want each one of you to watch this and then pass it on. So please watch and let me know what you think.
Thanks Again To All Of You For Not Forgetting Him.

We are coming up to 10 years after the 9-11 tragedy and the beginning of the Global War on Terrorism. Unfortunately I have seen many of my Ranger buddies fall over these last ten years, Nate being one of them. I served with Nate in Cco 2/75, we were in the same Platoon, I think about him quite frequently, particularly around times like this.
Thank you for this site, I just wish that I found it earlier.

I do not know where to begin, but I felt a strong urge to pay tribute especially to Nathan tonight. It is the 4th of July, and nearly 5 years since God has brought him home. And I do not know his family, nor many of his friends(other than others at racker Barrel). Nathan was truly an IDEAL American citizen. He and I started Cracker Barrel on the same exact day, orientation, first day training(our employee numbers were one number apart). The day we met he told me all about his dream of the Army Rangers. He was finishing high school at the time, and all he wanted to do was hurry up and finish so he could get out and kick some behind out in the Army. He quickly became one of my favorite people to be around because my brothers are both proudly serving in the Army, and at the time my youngest brother was serving his first tour in Iraq, and I was terrified, and Nathan was so reassuring and confident. He made the days easier knowing that someone I loved so much was so far away sacrificing his life. He and my husband also became very good friends, shortly before we moved. Nathan left for Iraq before we moved backed into town. We were so excited to see him and introduce him to our new addition, Vincent, only to learn that 2 days earlier he had been killed in action. I was heartbroken, but my husband was far more so. My husband joined the Army and left for basic training very, very shortly after and has since served 2 tours in Iraq, he really cared for Nathan. Not a day goes by that I do not thinl of him, and all soldiers fallen or otherwise. And this 4th of July I just want to say that it may be their honor to serve this country, but it is my honor to be so blessed to know a person willing to sacrifice so much for people they may never know, and in some cases will never know. To Nathans family, I pay my respects, nothing can ever replace someone so very special. I am honored and humbled to have had the pleasure to know him.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Nathan, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Nate and I went through RIP together, and then later came to Washington together. We were a tight group that showed up, and thats why it hit us hard when we found out it was Nate. I had to make a couple phone calls from Afghanistan to make sure it was true. I know the pain never goes away and nothing I can say will make it better. But he was a great man, someone to look up to. September 19, 2007
My name is Kyle Jasin. I am a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. I had the pleasure of knowing PFC Nathan Stahl in high school. I remember him sitting behind me in Mr Huber's English class at Highland High School. We would jokingly go back and forth about who was better: the Army or the Marines. I was shocked and saddened when I received a call from a friend that he had been killed. He was one of 7 students that joined the Armed Forces from our graduating class; myself included. I recall a news interview that was put in the Hammond Times on 09 Apr 2003. PFC Stahl, another gentlemen- Matt McCarty- who joined the Navy, and myself were interviewed about our decision to join, despite the ongoing War on Terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq. PFC Stahl spoke proudly and enthusiastically, as we all did, about his future Army career. If you were there, you would know that he was fully dedicated to our Country- a trait of a true Patriot. Shortly after Nathan's death, I was home for leave, and stopped his parents' house to offer my condolences. They gave me a a little card, with his photograph, from the memorial service. I keep it displayed in my truck, as a salute to him, and all our fallen service members from all of our Country's conflicts. I would like to give a salute to PFC Nathan E Stahl for giving the Ultimate Sacrifice: OORAH! Nathan! "All Gave Some, Some Gave All"
August 13, 2007
There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

My son Joshua White served with Nathan in the 75th and was in Iraq with him. I"ll never forget the heartbreak I felt for my son, his entire unit and especially the family when Josh told me what had happened. Nathan was Josh's best friend in the unit,He loved Nate as a brother and his loss was devastating to Joshua. Josh wears a bracelet in honor of Nate. I never met Nathan, but I have many pictures and memories from the conversations Josh and I held.My heart broke as if he were my own son. The one most special thing I hold in my heart always, is that Nathan loved the Lord which I am so thankful for. I thank You Nathan for following your dreams, for having the courage and faith it took to make it through the training that only a few make it through. To be brave enough to do what it takes to be a true warrior. Even though I never knew you personally, I love you, because my son loves you and because you are my little brother in Christ. And even though it's so hard to do at times,I believe that The Lord was in charge of your life as He is with all of His children. And though you are no longer here in body we are all still hidden in Christ, one family together forever in spirit.I see, after reading all of the loving words on this tribute, that you have certainly left a great gift of joy, friendship, and loving memories in the hearts of those who where granted the wonderful gift of YOU "Nathan" in their lives. I am so proud of Nathan and I am so thankful that my Josh was granted the blessing of having him in his life even for a whisper of time. We all need treausures, Nathan was a treasure in Josh's life. I would like the family to know that I always prayed for our boys, and I always will. I prayed especially during that dark hour that the Lord Yeshua would comort all of you as only He is able to do. May The lord keep all of your hearts nestled in the palm of His hand and may we all look forward to a brighter day when once again we will with our eyes behold the faces of our loved ones. In Loving memory, Thank You Nathan we love and miss you.

I saw that this has been made, and I would like to add a few things.
I was Nathan's cousin, not my blood, but by marriage, since I was 9. And through those 5 years that I had known him, he left a mark on the future years in my life, and probably the lives of many others in my family. He was an inspiration to us all, always having a free-spirit, and a cheeky smile. I don't think there was one time that I didn't see him smiling. He always told us to be strong, no matter what, even when times got their hardest. That's what I will remember most about him, how he always kept his head high, and always said: Things will only get better from here. And I just want to say one last thing: I will never, ever forget you Nathan. You made a mark in our lives that will never be erased. You are our hero, and I will always look up to you. I love you and will always miss you.
God Bless.

Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to remember and honor my stepson. Being blessed with the opportunity to be a Dad to Nathan was, as his name sake, a gift from God. It's amazing how his influence has awakened me. Nathan lived his life according to Joshua 1:9; Be strong and of Good courage;Be not afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you whever you go. Now that I look back on this verse the truth of it is as obvious as the sun is bright. Six months prior to, almost to the day of Nathans death I decided, yeah this God thing is real, and I accept his Son Jesus Christ in my life as my lord and Savior. God was there for me and my family before the tragedy, putting people in our lives to help us cope with and deal with our loss. Nathans death was not a punishment for something, it wasn't in vein, he had a purpose, he chose and was honored to be a US Army Ranger and had Integrity that would be revered by any man and all who knew him. Honor God, Honor your family, Honor the commitments you make. I pray that all who read this will follow the example that Nathan has made; live without fear, love without regret- believe in the reality of Christ without compromise.

I just want to say a few things about Nathan since it has been almost 2 years now since his death. Being the mother of Tiffany, his girlfriend, I got to know Nathan and thought of him as my future son in law. I knew him as a young man with a lot of vision and heart and a commitment to the Lord and a desire to spread the love of Christ to others especially in the army. I know he was succeeding in this, Tiff shared a lot with me. Whenever I think of Nathan a lot of things come to mind, but most of all I know he is in heaven with the Lord and that gives the comfort to his mom and Tiff and many others. I still cry on occasion over this loss. It's not hard to think about it and do that. Nathan is sorely missed, no doubt. But, as it says in the bible, "eye has not seen, nor ear has not heard what God has prepared for those who love Him. Now that's hope! God Bless. Mrs. Sally Metzler

I still remember the first time that I heard about Nathan's death. I know it's been over a year now, a year and one month exactly, but I will never forget the way the principal got on the intercom and announced it during 7th hour. I immediately got tears in my eyes & couldn't hold back the quivering lip. This didn't happen in Highland. Things like this weren't heard of. I never personally knew Nathan, but to think that just my freshman year, I could have passed him in the very halls that I walk in now, gave me a feeling that I still can't describe. My mom told me that she remembers seeing him when she would pick me up from school, walking through the parking lot. I saved his articles from the newspaper, and will be doing a speech on the War in Iraq, in which I plan on talking about Nathan, and showing his articles. My boyfriend is currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a US Marine. I think this is one of the reason why it hit me so hard. Nathan is still in my heart and I will never forget everything he has done for us. For our country. God Bless you all! -Elizabeth

I wear a metal engraved bracelet with your son's name on it. My son wore it and gave it to me to hold until he returns. He did not know your son but when he spoke of Nathan, you could feel the pride, honor and fellowship. I had never known my son to speak like that about another person. There must be something special about where our boys wanted to be and something special about Nathan. I think I'm going to keep the bracelet on my wrist. It is an honor to wear it.

While I did not know Nathan, I know his stepfather Rodney. All the coverage I have read about Nathan tells me he was an extraordinary young man and someone his parents must've been extremely proud of. From a distance my heart has been with your family through this ordeal. My deepest condolences go out to you in such a devastating time. May time heal your wounds and memories of Nathan keep him alive in your hearts.

My husband introduced me to your son about a year ago. He was once Special Forces and a former Ranger himself so he felt an instant bond with Nate and the others from the 75th. Nate was a wonderful person. He always had a smile and could make us laugh in an instant. He touched the heart of many during his stop here at Fort Lewis. My prayers are with you and your family during this time of loss. He will be missed and will always be in our hearts.

What is the measure of a man? I think it is someone who gives selflessly and sacrifices his life to a cause noble to most anything in the world. You did that and I thank you for your honorable service and courage. Democracy grows based on your sacrifice and the sacrifice of others. Not a day goes by that we don't think of you and what you meant to us here. Thank you....My thoughts are with your family daily.

Nathan,
You meant the world to me, and I know that you knew that. I will always remember the times we had shared throughout high school...ditching spanish class and going out to lunch, partying with Charlie and Dave...no matter what we did, you made sure that we always had fun. I love you, Nathan, and I always will have a space in my heart for you. I will ask you just three things, give Tiffany strength, she needs you to be strong for her. Give your family courage to go on without you here in body, but you always will be in spirit. And, finally, give me the same warming smile you always did when you wanted me to be happy...nobody has ever made me laugh as hard as you did. I never wanted to see you the way I did, that image is permanently burned into my mind, you deserved so much more than that. Since believing in God is the only thing keeping me sane right now, I have to believe that you had a purpose here on earth, and you have fulfilled it, whatever it was. I loved you when you were alive, and I will continue to do so in death. Be strong, and as you always told me when I was upset: "what are you crying for, go have a beer." I will, and I will drink to you Nathan. I will drink to your life, to the memories, and to your family for being so strong and courageous.
Love always,
Nat

Nathan was a junior when I first started teaching at Highland High School. I did not have him as a student in my English classes, but I remember seeing his name on class rosters and his name always stuck out because his last name is spelled similar to my own. I always heard so many positive things about Nathan and wished I had the chance to teach such a fine young man. I am grateful to him and so proud that he served our country and defended our freedoms. He gave the ultimate sacrifice and will forever be remembered as America's Hero. God be with the Stahl family at this most difficult time.
