Nathan Friedkin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home on Sep. 5, 2024.
GIRARD - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nathan Daniel Friedkin, 42, of Girard, Ohio, on August 31, 2024. Born on March 9, 1982, in Youngstown, Nathan was the cherished son of Alan and Carol (Wagner) Friedkin, the beloved brother of Aaron (Joni) Friedkin and Sara (Lance) Polikov, the adored uncle of Hayden, Sawyer, and Jordyn Polikov, and the loyal companion of the family dog, Iyla.
Nathan was a proud graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 2000, where he served as President of his class. His academic journey continued at Indiana University and Youngstown State University, where he graduated with a bachelor's in business administration with highest honors. His dedication to his studies earned him numerous awards and scholarships, including the Indiana University Founder's Day Award, the Indiana University Merit Scholarship, the Jeffrey Francis Accounting Scholarship, the William Petrych Memorial Accounting Scholarship, and the YSU Foundation Scholarship. He was a proud member of multiple academic honor societies, including Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and the Golden Key International Honor Society. Following graduation, Nathan worked for local accounting firms, was accepted to law school at the University of Akron and received both his real estate license and personal trainer certification.
Nathan was an amazing son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend. From a young age, he was known for his intelligence, kindness, compassion, sensitivity, and generous spirit. He had a remarkable ability to make those around him feel special, always remembering birthdays and selecting thoughtful gifts that brought joy to his loved ones. Whether it was the coolest new toy for his nieces and nephew or a delicious treat from Goldbelly, Nathan's gifts were always chosen with care and love. His passion for helping others extended beyond his family to his volunteer work at the Second Harvest Food Bank, where he dedicated his time to supporting those less fortunate. Wherever he went, Nathan brought the amazing sense of humor that he shared with his father and brother and his infectious smile and laughter.
Nathan had a deep appreciation for his Youngstown roots, holding a special place in his heart for Mill Creek Park and the city's rich history. He always knew the best places to eat in town and loved sharing his knowledge and love for his hometown with others. Nathan had a love for nature and the outdoors that extended to his joy for gardening. When not serving as "tech support" for the entire family or working on NateFlix, he was passionate about fitness and living a healthy lifestyle.
As an uncle, Nathan adored his nieces and nephew. When they visited Ohio, he would go out of his way to make their stays memorable, from setting up the latest slip 'n slide or inflatable pool to taking them on adventures to Wagon Trails, Mill Creek Park, and the Children's Museum. He had a unique gift for showing them a good time and creating cherished memories.
Nathan's life was marked by his twenty-four-year struggle with bipolar disorder and depression. In his memory, his family wishes to promote mental health awareness and education. They hope that by sharing Nathan's story, they can help break the stigma associated with mental health conditions and encourage those who are suffering to seek help and support. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for help (National Mental Health Hotline - 1-866-903-3787).
Nathan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Laura (Gold) and Saul Friedkin, Helen (Sefcik) and Albert Wagner, and his beloved uncle and best friend Gary Friedkin. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gabba Camp, an organization dear to Nathan's heart, in his honor.

Alan and Carole I am so very sorry on the loss of your cherished son. I never had the opportunity to meet him but he certainly sounded like an accomplished man.
